That's the key word. If her last name wasn't Hilton and she hadn't inherited the family estate, she'd be lucky to be a waitress or a hair dresser. Crack whore might be a more likely fate for her.

Or how about being born into a beyond wealthy family? and if being a dumb public slut is charisma, then yes, most of us dont have that charisma, regretably.

I have no problem with anyone making fun of that cow, but I don't see the point of inviting her on the show just to take the pi** of her.

Just make fun of her without having her there.

and so why doesnt her sister have the same profile?

i couldnt care less about Paris and her products, but at least recognize that she has not done anything.

she has done no more or less than say Robert Downey or Kurt Cobain. she has built a product and brand and yes she had a good head start with her name and $$, but that doesnt mean that was all she needed.

There are literally thousands of people that have the money and opportunity and do crap with it.

Give her some credit, she's taken her name and run with it to the point that good or bad she's a recognized brand name, and she makes millions off of it.

She's certainly accomplished more then a lot of people I know.

Dude, if Bill Gates daughter did the exact same thing when she grew up, she'd have just as much "celebrity" as Paris Hilton does right now. She was born into the right situation, and if she chose to sell her decency for fandom, she could just as easily as Paris does right now.

The only reason people know her name is because of the video. It has nothing to do with connections or charisma.

Ha ha.

Without getting into specifics (such as talent), I would say that both Robert Downey Jr. and Kurt Cobain have done (did) just a little bit more than distribute amateur videos of themselves engaging in intimate discussions with the business end of a penis.

This woman doesn't have the brains, looks, talent, charisma or anything else to differentiate her from the rest of us poor schlubs. Her grandpa made a lot of money and she is a coked-out slut who doesn't mind spending it. Some of us find that fascinating.

yes, because it's much more nobel to make fun of someone when they not around to defend themselves.
I'm shocked by all this letterman hate. this is what dave does, and as anyone who has been a fan of the show and letterman would know, Dave is not a cheap shot artist. I'm sure he gave Paris and her people a heads up. She handled herself well and didn't seem at all shocked, i think thats proof right there.
I'm neither a paris supporter nor a basher, but i'm shocked that so many people defend her. as a father of a young daughter, the last person i want to be seen as a role model is Paris Hilton. sorry if i don't want my daughter growing up as a bimbo acting, school drop-out, money wasting, sex tape making, public showing, drunk driving criminal. i don't care how much money she could make doing it.

Yes, in fact it is. She brings that sort of attention onto herself, but in this case she was invited to the show as a guest, and that is no way to treat a guest.
It's like inviting someone to your home for dinner just to make fun of them. Why invite them in the first place?

yup, thats nothing.
Only if you use wealth as an indicator. Has she started a family? Does she have close personal and social ties with people? Has she ever gone outside of her personal bubble to help someone less fortunate?

Of course not. She's a worthless hulk of a human being who has never looked out for anyone but herself.

who said I wanted my daughter to grow up like Paris or to use her as a role model?

i cant believe I am standing up for her, but you guys have no idea when you say she has done nothing. she has done something, quite a bit actually. saying otherwise doesnt change it.

I think you are taking the phrase "done nothing" too literally. What isl ikely meant is she hasn't done anything of value.

for society? true.

but throw in just about the entire celebrity population in that bag.

for herself? she has done alot more than most could dream of, even considering her access to $$ and connections. there are plenty of people with just as much money and family roots who have not been able to do what she has done with her career, in fact there are very few.

dont get me wrong, i am no fan of her lifestyle, products or image, but for those people to trot out the cliche that she has done nothing, it is simply incorrect.

Maybe you should clarify what exactly it is that you believe she has "done" with her career.

Far as I can tell, she's traded in her own dignity and her family name so she can get her name in the paper. Not exactly an accomplishment, if you ask me.

And most people with "just as much money and family roots" don't have or want what she has because most people aren't that stupid -- they don't want to be a punchline. I'm pretty sure every person with a similar background could be well famous if they were willing to show the world homemade porno flicks and act like a drunken lunatic.

Maybe it's just a New York thing to invite people into the public eye as your guest and then insult them in front of everybody...
