So as it turns out the problem is the operator, not the system. Basically the problem lies chiefly with me being an idiot, with a side of reading comprehension. I wasn't installing the CPU correctly...yeah it was a pretty rookie mistake and I am glad I didn't fry the CPU. So there is no need to make fun right?...right?

Now that we have moved on from that...I am posting from the new computer! Everything seems to be working, including Vista. Installed Bioshock and dialed everything into the highest setting with a resolution of 1680x1050 and it ran flawlessly. Definitely happy with the computer (now that it's working). I'll post some pics pretty soon too.

Thanks for the help everyone!

How were you putting in the cpu?

And once you got past that, it was pretty easy, wasn't it?

Now you can spen hours/days/weeks trying to optimize your system and make it just right.

I thought I said we could move on?...bah! I knew I was going to have to answer. You know that black piece on the back? Yeah you can't leave that on. <-- Never has that emoticon been more appropriate. Everything else pretty much went fine.

Exactly. I am unsure where to start though. My windows performance rating is 5.6. My memory is the lowest subscore. The hardrive is 5.7 and everything else is 5.9.

You'll have to check and maybe change your memory settings in your bios. If you're not going to overclock or maybe even if you are, I'd set the timings and voltage to the memory manufacturers settings. Here's a guide I used that's useful even if all you want is to set the memory.

It happens to all of us.. I remember once I was prototyping a big circuit with a bunch of chips and wires and everything and I spent an hour trying to figure out why nothing was working. I tore it apart and redid it twice, replaced chips, everything I could think of and I couldn't get anything out of it.

Until someone pointed out that I didn't have the chips' power wired in.

Nice! Always good to see another person figure out building a PC isn't as hard as it might seem.

This was my favorite thread for awhile because I like troubleshooting. Glad to hear things worked out and everything is fine. I have no idea how you managed to install the CPU WITH the heatsink if you left the black piece on. Luckily the new Intels auto-shut off with high heat before damage is done.

I'm more impressed that the pins on the back of the processor didn't get all bent to high hell after the socket latch compressed the CPU.

I'm really liking the monitor. Good picture and the monitor itself looks great.

What's your steam name?

He's lucky because I believe that CPU doesn't have pins on the back of the processor...the pins should be on the motherboard.
We should've provided this video for him: http://www.slizone.com/content/flash...diybuild03.swf

I remember in 2nd year computer science, I was writing a program that moved this diamond around a checkerboard type screen with the number pad as direction keys so Icould have diagonals as well. All of the sudden as I was debugging code, the diamond stopped moving. I spent 4 hours going through line after line of code.... till I noticed that numberlock was off.....

Well if i can drop the 10 lb heat sink on the quad and it still functions I think it can handle anything. hehe.

Remember rule #1 for next time. Have mem express mount the heatsink on for free!
