22 year old guy having sex with a 16 year old girl
Hi. Long time reader, first time poster.
I found this in a fitness forum.
A guy, 22, wants to have sex with a girl who's 16. I'm the dad of a 1 year old daughter. I am worried about her enough as it is, but I cant think of how much I'd worry about this if this was my daughter. I'm angry about this guy doing this, am I right to be angry? What would you do if your daughter was in this situation?
(to make things equal, you can read the 22 year old guys side on his blog, [Mod edit- link removed.]

If the age of consent is 16. Its legal according to the law. Being a man, I know men are pigs. What can we do? Lock our daughters up untill they are 40?

I do believe the legal age of consent is determined by the federal government which is actually at 14, not that it makes the situation any better.
I think there's definately a problem if a 22yr old is looking to score with 16 yr olds. Granted 16 yr olds didn't look like they did when I was 16 (and I'm only a youngin' at 25) however that doesn't mean that I'm gonna pick them up (unless I'm driving them to their pediatrician of course).
Frankly if a 16 yr old is interested seriously in a 22yr old in "that way" then there's something wrong with her as well. Good parenting will prevent that. If you're concerned about that when she's one, you're more than likely going to do a good job raising your daughter and instill a moral code of eithics that would nip that in the butt.
Hell I almost feel like a pediofile by joking about how hot one of my best friend's sister is (and she's 18, and I only do it because it makes
my friend flustered)

My suggestion to my friends who have daughters- never potty train them. Because I had a rule when I was dating; if she craps her pants on the way to dinner; the date will be ending early.

I thought the legal age anywhere in Canada is 14, but he seems to think it's 16...regardless, 14 is too low. The 22 year old clearly needs to grow up and find someone at least out of high school.

I have a suggestion for parents out there.
Teach your sons how to be gentlemen!!!!
Why are we only looking at what the age of consent is and how to lock our daughters up?
Sexual activity is a two way street, responsibilities lie with both the man and the woman so responsibilities for BOTH have to be addressed.

The legal age was 14, and might still be, but a campaign promise of the Conservatives was that they'd raise it to 16 if elected. I haven't heard that they actually did, but they very well might have.
Also, by defining the age of consent as either 14 or 16, I always thought that only applied to partners of a similar age ... say one or two years apart in age. I believe it's still illegal for someone who is much older than 18 to have sex with someone under 18. I'm no legal eagle though ... maybe one of CP lawyers can clairfy this for us.

I am pretty sure the way it was before, was that someone older than 18 could have sex with anyone over 14 as long as there was consent and the 18+ person could not be in a position of trust, such as a teacher.

ok so that guy is a little twisted from reading his blog. that being said girls now a days are a bunch of little ho's (for the most part) so i don't think its unusual that he thought they were 18.
the question here is where do you draw the line?
is an 18year old and a 22 year old ok? what about 17 and 22? 23 and 18?
it seems the older you get the less age matters and understandably so. its funny too that a 22 year old girl and an 18 year old guy is ok but the other way around and he's a pervert. but 22 and 16 is definately too young. i abide by the divide your age by 2 and add 7. so 22 year olds should only go for 18 and up.

Legally, there's nothing wrong with it. The attempt to raise the age to 16 was quashed by Senate. Even if it wasn't, this would still be legal.
Morally, is there really a big difference between 16 and 22 nowadays? Is that difference bigger than 18 and 24, or 21 and 27, or even 34 and 40? Tough to say, everyone matures at different paces. There's some 34 year olds who think they are still 18 year old bar stars (I know a couple), and less mature than their 21 year old counterpart. I wouldn't do it, but I know of a lot of people in their late teens/early 20s dating people with a 3, 4, 5, even 6 year gap. Its a little weird, but its two consenting adults (under the law), so who's to judge? Best thing to do is to teach people's daughters to be discerning and patient, and to teach people's sons to be the same.

Have you ever been, or had a son, who was 16? At that age, hormones pretty much stage a coup and hold the brain for hostage. All the good teaching and ground work in the world isn't going to do much good at that point, and wee Willy is going to be making all the decisions for the lad.
We have a 16 year-old-daughter, and we've tried to teach her to make the right and responsible decisions and abstain from sex until she's at least 18, or older if she wishes to be celibate until married. But we're not fools either ... some 16-year-olds are going to experiment with sex. So we're tried to teach her to make the right and responsible decisions in that situation too ... ie, safe sex. We don't encourage that option, but we're not going to stick out heads in the sand and ignore it's possibility either. Personally, I'd rather she have a boyfriend who is a good kid, but having safe sex with her and treating her with respect, than for her to date someone who is going to treat her like dirt, or kill her while driving impaired, or get her hooked on crack. There are worse things in the world than 16-year-olds having sex.

Lesse, 22 divided by 2 equals 11. 11 plus 7 equals 18.
It was pretty easy when I was younger.

I don't know, I'm a simple guy, if my 16 year old girl was going out with a 22 year old, I certainly wouldn't invite the little twirp over for sunday dinner, but I would have a little one on one chat with him. While we were digging a hole in the backyard thats 8 feet long, 4 feet accross and 6 feet deep.
"Hey Jr, can you grab that lye from the shed . . . thanks"

C-22 was not "squashed by the Senate". Putting all the blame on the Senate is like blaming the pitcher who came in to pitch the 9th with his team down 12-2.
I personally am against C-22. Not because it raises the age of consent, but because it keeps that archaic law in place that the age of consent for anal sex is 18. Therefore a 22 and a 16 year old heterosexual relationship is allowed, but not a homosexual one. Yeah, the churches were all up in arms about changing that because they wanted to protect young boys from gay pedophiles. I guess the church knows something about that....

Someone posted this exact same thread on another forum I frequent (non-hockey related). It's like they copied and pasted the whole thing onto here. Weird.

I have a 16 year old sister, and if it came out that she was sleeping with a 22 year old…there is no doubt in my mind that man would be hospitalized
