MS is now offering free downgrades to Windows XP for any purchaser of the Vista OS.

Bought a custom system a few months ago and the person who built it had nothing good to say about Windows Vista. In fact he wouldn't install it in my new computer. Glad I listened to him.

Same here, my only problem is that I can't run TSN video but I blame TSN.

Same for me. Sure they appear to have changed some things just for the sake of it but, mostly, it's been working fine for me. Gaming on vista hasn't even been the chore that I expected it to be, judging by all the poor reactions I'd read.

I ran Vista64 Ultimate for about four months and recently rolled back to XP Pro. Couldn't get anything that resembled stability. I'll give it a little bit for MS to get their in line and for the vendors to release better driver support before trying it again. I probably wouldn't even give a rat's ass about Vista if it wasn't for DirectX 10.

Everything wrong with Vista is about driver support.

Macs don't deal with it at all because everything is proprietary.

I don't understand where the comparison is. If you had a perfectly tuned Vista-enabled setup, each piece with Vista drivers, I would think it would be much more stable. I haven't seen too many issues with it myself TBQH.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 and have no problems with it. Every driver I need works and have found it to be pretty stable for me. I'm happy. and i'm sure things will improve more with SP1.

I'm currently working on a test build of our software on a vista box (business edition) at work. Vista went nuts with driver incompatibility. Seriously, if you're gonna roll out an operating system, make sure it will accommodate common business applications for people in the freaking business world.

Vista = Fail.

Ditto here. I've got Vista Ultimate and Home Premium and things have been fine. The only exception has been my stupid printer, and anyone who's used HP knows how lousy their forced obsolesenc....errr...driver support is.

Im pretty sure the downgrade support was needed for companines that have not rolled out Vista as a standard yet. Since certain providers do not bundle machines with XP anymore, this was something that microsoft promised would provide given that these vendors exclusively bundle with Vista.

Hopefully those parties bringing Directx 10 to WinXP will succeed so I won't be forced to upgrade just to get Directx 10 as is Microsoft's evil plan.

Well this Mac fanboy seems to remember huge resistance to OS X back in '01. Vista will come around. Microsoft is doing some good things (I can"t believe i just said that).

Trust me, OS X was dog slow, driver support sucked and launching classsic OS 9 to actually do anything blew.

This happens every time a new windows comes out. Everyone complains and says it's the worst windows evar, and blah, blah, blah. But eventually everyone will go out and buy it.

Sine my computer isn't assembled yet (

) I haven't gotten to use my copy of Vista Home Premium. But my dads laptop has it, so I've gotten a bit of time with it. Haven't explored it much, but it basically seems like a nicer looking XP with more backup features and a fancier multimedia player. I know there is more stuff, but I haven't used them yet. But one thing I would say is that I think it is more user friendly for computer newbies than XP was.

I think that is one of Microsoft's greatest strengths and weaknesses. Weakness because it creates a huge amount of additional complexity in the OS. Strengths because is allows them to convince people to upgrade sooner since their applications that they already own will (supposedly) still work.

Personally, I haven't had any issues with Vista outside of trying to figure out where they have hidden certain features, but that happens on every new release (hell, I still drop into DOS to do certain things, even though I know it isn't really DOS - the commands still work).

Exactly Burninator. It's the same every time and the naysayers have no factual reasoning behind their belief it sucks. Mainly just because it is Microsoft. Question, if it was free, would it suck then?

I actually bought Vista. This is the second time I have purchased a legitimate version of windows. I had nothing but problems with any OS I used, especially XP when I downloaded it and installed it. Once I bought it legally, I rarely had a problem with windows itself ever again. I'm convinced it's these illegal copies that are driving the "vista sucks!" naysayers as they probably downloaded it to "try it".

The only problem I've had with Vista so far was compatibility with my 3d drafting software. However, this was due more to Autodesk's inability to adapt. Since then a new version and patch later, it's working just fine.

I have several programs that don't work on my Vista such as Media Creator which I paid $80 for along with a bunch of games. That is what I really dont like about Vista.
