Calgary to Kelowna
Hey folks,
Half heartedly looking at a Calgary trip next month. Just wondering the best/cheapest way to get from Calgary to Kelowna and back (or Kelowna to Calgary and back).
If I'm out West I'd have to stop in both cities.
WestJet seems to be $89 each way, which is a little out of my price range (especially at $179 one way from Halifax).
If I'm gonna make this work, I need to watch my budget (and get to a Flames game)

it's a 6-7 hour drive depending on traffic, so renting a car may be cheaper for you. going by Greyhound would be cheaper still, but then you're looking at a 10-12 hour commute

10-12 hours seems long. But I suppose if I had my iPod it'd work.
I wonder what the pricing would be to fly into one city and out of the other. . .
edit: about an extra $120

Fly, brother, fly. I've made that trip a couple dozen times and it's so much more efficient to fly. Especially if you're by yourself. Driving takes up a good chunk of the day, whereas flying takes only a couple of hours out of your morning.
Compared to your other options (bus, renting a car, hitch-hiking, walking), flying just makes so much more sense, even if it is a little more expensive. It's worth it.
Although the drive is fun, especially if you've never done it before.

Looks like Kelowna to Halifax is only $45 more than Calgary to Halifax.
Remember to book your westjet from Sample00's site. Same interface as the main Westjet site.

Now you're talking. Kelowna has grown so much that their airport now services much of NA. That is a good option, even if it costs you a little extra than a Calgary ----> Maritimes flight would.

Looks like a standard one-way from Kelowna to Calgary on the Greyhound is a cool $87. If it's $89 to fly you might want to splurge for the plane and save yourself 10 hours on the old Dirty Dog.

yeah looking at the options it would be flying.
Also I plug Sample00's site to non-CPers that are booking WestJet. It's not often, so I don't know if it's ever actually been done. But without question if I book WestJet it'd be on his site.
Play with the numbers right now, not looking great, but we'll see. It's late now so I'm not scheeming at the best of my abilities.
Why couldn't my bro be going to school in a more accessible city?

West Jet has done a good job making cities like Kelowna easy to get to.
Put me in the fly there camp. \

Do the flight. The road between Calgary and Kelowna is laughable at best (although they have fixed the TransCanada a little bit but it still sucks as a so called major route for a first world country). Also by the time you rent a car insure it pay the drop off fees....flying will be cheaper.

Westjet goes to a bunch of smaller cities. They recently began flying to Kamloops which is only an hour and a half from Kelowna.

Westjet has flown out of Kelowna for a long time now.
Another way to save a bit might be air miles, if you have enough.

Westjet does not fly to kamloops, also include all the other junky taxes into the price. Sure adds to the price

Well I know Westjet did fly out of Kamloops when I lived there a year ago. Things might have changed since then.

While flying may be more practical, I like the road through the Rockies and if someone hasn't been before, the scenery is terrific. It's a tough road to drive and requires all your attention but to me it's fun. Me, I like the two lane twisty roads but than I have a motorcycle built for them.

its fun until you get stuck behind a saskatchewan driver who has no idea how to drive a mountain road. they drive slower than my grandmother through the winding stuff, but the worst thing is that when a passing lane finally comes they SPEED UP, because hey it's straight and wide. i'm so glad i have a car with enough power now so i can pass them no matter how much they speed up, that drive was murder back when i had my old k-car

I should clarify, why couldn't my bro go to a school that's more accessible to me.
If I do make the trip out, I'll be sure to have it posted here, Flames Central will definately be hit up one of the nights I'm there. Hopefully the Dome, and maybe this Cecil place

Bicycle.
Did it in 1979.
Very cheap but the snow tunnels at the Roger's Pass are definitely not bicycle friendly!!!
