I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I am going to buy this. I never really played much of the first two, because I didn't own an xbox. Plus with a new computer on the way I doubt I'll be playing the xbox much. I wonder if I should just go ahead and sell my 360.

I've heard it's 5-6 hours long which is pretty pathetic. That's why I really hate this online multiplayer craze - too many game companies simply forget that there's still plenty of people who prefer to play alone...

It's got to the point where people whine that games like Mario Party aren't online.

Yeah I only want it for the single player campaign, so I'll probably wait until they show up on eBay or buy/sell.

5-6 hours? Ah weak. I wanted it for the single player campaign as well. Well now I really doubt that I'll be picking it up.

I wouldn't touch Halo MP with a 10 ft cattle prod. Way too many 12 year olds out there. I'll play it for SP, like I do with all games. MP for me is usually secondary.

I think gamespot said the campaingn should be 10-18 hours depending on skill.

If you don't like it, don't buy it, plain and simple.
Halo is in no way as advanced or easily controlled as PC FPS but the fact is that it is probably the best FPS series on any console system.
And to say "Halo 3 is nothing extraordinary like everyone is making it out to be" seems a bit presumptuous. Judging from the reviews it has received so far it is, in fact, extraordinary. Most reviews are saying that it actually lives up to the hype and that it is the most "next generation" experience to come out so far on any console.
Most reviews nowadays are based a lot on how well the site thinks the game will sell. At least that's what people who have worked for IGN have told me.

I can totally see it especially from sites like Gamespot. It's quite funny really - Gamespot marked down Metroid Prime 3 because it was too much like the first two (which were in the 9.5 range) and yet Halo 3 gets a 9.5. More advertising/hype and more potential sales = better rating.

Everything I've read on message boards (from other reviews) is that the campaign is ridiculously short (which in turn is responded by fanboys who say 6 hours is standard for games today...which is sadly true for a lot of them). That 10-18 hours number probably is from playing Legendary solo which is pretty unfair because you could basically do the same thing for any game.

Possible. If it is only 6 hours, then that's laughable.

My brother is getting it so i'll play it through when hes done. I'm in no rush though. I'd rather play with keyboard and mouse. Maybe I can wait 4 years for it to come out for PC.

Edit: Just checked, it was gamespy that said 11-18 hours for SP.

I'd rather have 10 hours of good focused play than 25 hours of the same levels that just go on and on though.

Eh, I like the story, love the music, love Cortana (she sounds hot), don't think it's mind glowingly amazing or revolutionary but I really enjoy it and it entertains me. Plus it's easy, and by that I mean I there is no real learning curve. I don't play games to have to learn a ton of controls, details, etc. Things like Splinter Cell or the new crysis game look like there are so many details and guns, and customization that it doesn't appeal to me. Halo you can just kind of start shooting.

Also the stories have never been to complicated. Games like half life and some other games I feel like it's a job/chore to finish.. getting lost and looking around for hours for things, ugh, pain in the ass.

I'll probably drive by F/S tonight to see how busy it is. Maybe go buy one if it's semi quiet.

I never said it sucks. Im just saying its not all that made out to be by all the nerds "greatest thing invented since sliced bread"....or ......"the greatest game ever" Not even close. I hate it when these people make it seem like the people who dont give a damn about this game are dellusional.

Da-ding!

Even when COD4 comes out, it'll kill Halo 3.

its called money - of course this game is going to get 1000000/10 perfect reviews, all the websites have been generously paid off.

I personally can't stand playing games on the mouse and keyboard. Having a smackin' big TV and surround sound is great IMO. And the Halo series is probably the most balanced FPS's out there. For a console game, it gets constant updates and tweaks to improve gameplay. Plus playing on Live is a really great way to play team games, considering almost everyone has mics. My two cents.

Haha so true. Im staying far and away from the online aspect of it. THough I do know some adult peeps who are into the 4P coop so Ill do that too. But once I finish the campaign, thats all she wrote for me.

PGR4 is out a week after, then GH3 next month and COD4 a month later ....so I thats why ill be renting it at Blockbuster and just keep it for the month and be done with it since I plan on buying all 3 of those later 3 games I listed and care much more for them. I doubt ill even stay interested in Halo for longer than a week.

I highly doubt they have all been paid off. I know for a fact 1up and EGM magazine don't base any of their reviews off revenues. I would think maybe some smaller sites that have this as their bread and butter would do it. But does anyone who is a decent critic really think Halo is that bad?

Actually its been well known that IUP is one of the sites that do get paid off from time to time - just look at their 4/10 review for NHL 2K8 recently. Not that I dont agree that EA 08 is indeed better, but 4/10 for 2K8 is just ridiculous.

What I mean by paid off is, not nessecarily $ to rate the game so positively (because we all know Halo wasnt going to get a bad review anyways), but perhaps MS sending them extra incentives just to praise the game a bit higher than they normally would.

LOL, there is no way that many reviews could be bought off. If it works for you to hate this game have at it.... but I know one thing for sure my kid will LOVE it. I bet all of his friends will buy this game and they will love it as well.

As noted before I will stand in line tomorrow and buy the game.... if I did not have to work so early I would probably buy it at midnight as Future shop is giving away a free game with the purchase of Halo 3......

I would think thats probably the market place they are chasing.....
