The following essay is taken from "The Atheist's Guide to Christmas" published by Harpercollins.

Quote:
(CNN) -- While Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas, atheists may wonder if there is another birth they might be able to commemorate.
One possibility is to give thanks for the arrival of Isaac Newton, who was born on Christmas Day 1642 according to the Julian calendar, which was still in use in England at the time.

Quote:
For tens of thousands of years, humans have stared up into the heavens and wondered about the origin of the universe. Up until now every culture, society, and religion has had nothing else to turn to except its creation myths, fables, or religious scriptures.
Today, by contrast, we have the extraordinary privilege of being the first generation of our species to have access to a scientific theory of the universe that explains its origin and evolution.
The Big Bang model is elegant, magnificent, rational, and (most importantly of all) verifiable. It explains how roughly 13.7 billion years ago matter exploded into being and was blown out into an expanding universe. Over time this matter gradually coalesced and evolved into the galaxies, stars, and planets we see today.

A reader writes, "From Austin City Limits (2010) Steve Martin & the Steep Canyon Rangers perform his original a capella 'gospel' tune for the non-believers among us."

Steve Martin: "Atheists Don't Have No Songs" Quite funny actually

Poor writing aside, shouldn't a state Senator know the law?
Part two.

Hilarious.

"Given column constraints we don't have time to dismantle the “Java” man's shoddy excavation techniques (nor Java's limited bones mirroring today's human remains) or a myriad of other key evolution misleading’s but I encourage all readers to buy the scientifically reviewed bestseller “The Case for a Creator” by Lee Strobel. It's time we truly educate ourselves and our students."
"Scientifically reviewed"???

If Strobel's book was ever reviewed by scientists, I am quite certain that their appraisall was less than favourable.

Quote:
"There are other consequences to this misinformation. If Darwin is right then I am free to be the strongest by eating all in my way (forget “love thy neighbor”). Additionally, we put zero thought to the psychological consequences of low self-esteem as people are taught their existence is as purposeless as their “brother and sister animals.” This produces a value system where protecting beetles is prioritized but unborn children are not."
How disappointed will the senator be to learn that human beings are by definition "brother and sister animal" to the rest of the animal kingdom?
