I know it’s natural to be impatient but just about everyone expected that it would take time for the top line to come together. Thankfully we’ve been good enough to be 5-2 with one line that isn’t working yet. Even tonight, we still should have won this game - without a lot of production from the top line.
Let’s stick with the original plan and continue to be as patient as possible. Replacing one guy who hasn’t played with Huberdeau with another guy (Mangiapane) who hasn’t played with Huberdeau might not have the expected results on the top line but could break established chemistry on the second line.

We've played the Oiler's six times in the playoffs and lost 5 of them...in each series we lost our tender got out played by the Oiler's goalie.
We need a save for your statement to be true.

markstrom has had problems with the western Canadian teams his whole career
I say **** it. let vladar handle it .. sure it's unorthodox but were under no obligation to handicap ourselves against the oilers when we don't have to
I couldn't care less about sheltering goalie talk . do what you need to to bank the wins

I think players are still learning the new linemates and new guys are still adjusting their games. I hope they learned something today including Sutter.
Toffoli is dragging his lines. He is not connecting, not winning any battles and not good fore checker. They need play very fast game but they not doing it. I think Dube or Mangi will suit better with 10 and 28.

I still don’t think Vladar gets the win tonight if Flames only score 2 goals. Maybe we’d get to OT though and get the one point guaranteed with a chance for 2.

I remember seeing more than a few complaints about the schedule this year leaving only 3 BoA games, but I'm quite thankful that there's only one game left against Edmonton. Flames/Oilers games used to be fun to watch, but ever since the league decided that anyone who even grazes St. McDavid deserves a penalty it's just painful to sit through. Flames get called on phantom penalties, get caught puck watching and let the wonder twins dance around them, and then they have to inevitably battle back from 1 or 2 soft goals from Markstrom. It's not entertaining in the slightest and if we get saddled with another playoff Battle of Alberta I'm just going to stick to box scores

Not too concerned. Just sucks it's against the pretenders up north. McDavid a lot of times is just enough for them to eek out some wins. I wish I lived in the reality where the oilers didn't win the lottery. Still completely ridiculous that happened.

Only Flyers fans understand our pain...Lemieux and Crosby...Gretzky and McDavid.
F-sharp the draft lottery.

Which means you need a goalie who can shut down some grade A chances to beat them. Flames also need to be a bit more creative with their offence. Shooting 40 shots and winning the shot battle doesn’t mean much.

Oilers goals tonight:
1. Off Hanifin's stick on the cross ice pass
2. Quick shot from McDavid with Markstrom out of position after missing the rim
3. Bounce off Hymen's skate after McDavid no look passed it into the slot
The Oiler's tonight were the antithesis of high danger and their goals came off putting pucks on net.
There's a lot of luck in hockey, both ways and tonight we were on the wrong end of a few bounces.

And I don't know why Markstrom always ducks when the shot is high. And he gets so anxious when the in the blue zone.

Lots of reasons why they lost. But the biggest, by far, was their Vezina nominated goalie giving up the worst goal ever to change the entire game. That was ridiculous.

You just can’t lose to the Oilers. Time to change up the lines.
I’d go with Dube - Kadri - Mangiapane on line 1 and Huberdeau - Lindholm - Toffoli on line 2.

At the end of the day, it’s one game. There are 75 more. My takeaway, if we’re going to (over)analyze something now is that Huberdeau is not adjusting well so far. I think the road trip will be good, but the whole pageantry of the arrival feels heavy. Could be a while.

It was a 3-2 loss, the team is 5-2. The overreaction in this thread is huge. Markstrom will be fine, he is not garbage and we do not need a new goalie. The first line will be fine, we are 7 games in, chemistry takes time. The team will be fine, the sky is not falling.

Oh please. The Flames already beat those clowns once this year in convincing fashion, and lost a tight game tonight by one goal when the Oilers got lucky and capitalized on a flukey bounce. Sometimes the hockey gods just kick you in the nuts, and tonight was one of those nights.
Flames are a deeper team than they were last season, and I'm confident that if the playoffs started today we'd dismantle those losers in 6 games or less...with Markstrom in net.

Did Markstrom let in a poor goal? Yes, he struggled, a lot, when he came behind the net, there were at least 3 other turnovers that he got away with. But, I would point a larger finger at the Flames not taking the puck hard enough at Skinner. They were content to take perimeter shots, and a lot of the rebounds to the Oil D were easily cleared up ice. The Flames best O came on isolated counter attacks, and they seemed to generate only the Ritchie chance off of pressure. They got nothing off of the cycle, and little was generated from the point.
On the GWG, letting McAvi walk up the boards, unimpeded, on the hard around from the other wing, was soft, and a shadow should have been right on his shoulder, as soon as he hit the ice (kind of an old school tactic).
Enough blame for more than just Markstrom, who held your guys in the game during the early crummy call PKs...
I join you guys/gals in hating this result, and hope that you crush the SOBs in the next BoA.

Kadri Huberdeau together? Call it good.
Lindholm Huberdeau has neutered both of them.
