Figures that Chevy blunders his way into Laine. Reading more about Patrik Laine is really exciting. Great shot and offensive talent. Injecting him and Kyle Connor on the team next year is a massive upgrade. Hopefully Dithers-off buys out Pavelec and gets rid of Stuart.

Still cant believe the Jets came away with #2. Pure awesome.

Why? We would have been Columbus if we lost the last game, and could have got one of the Finns. So what's there to laugh at?

Time to inject some reality into this mess.

1. TOR - Needs are irrelevant. Auston Matthews goes first.

2. WPG - Needs are irrelevant. Patrik Laine goes second.

3. CLB - The Blue Jackets actually have some pretty decent depth in their system, including RW, but a big talented forward like Pul-hardtospell is hard to turn down. Seems like an automatic.

4. EDM - Needs talent at every position, but the most glaring need is on RW. Tyler Pitlick is their best/only prospect at that position. They could really use a forward on the right side. Next weakest position for prospects is center, but with McJesus and Drysaddle the Oilers are in pretty good shape there. Should be able to address the need of a 3rd or 4th line center later in the draft. Next weakest position is the blueline. They could use a high end talent on the blueline, especially a puck mover. Best fit based on needs: Olli Juolevi

5. VAN - The Canucks are a hot mess. They need help at every position, just like the Oilers. They could really use a top end blueliner, but with the Sedins getting long in the tooth they need a top end scoring talent up front that much more. They need a LW more than a RW. Best fit based on needs: Matthew Tkachuk

That's the good news. Looks like Dubois is our guy.

I think it's safe to say the Flames are going to be picking a forward which is either Dubois, Tkachuk, or Nylander. I like all 3.

Why are people thinking we trade the pick?

Personally got to see him live this year in Mississauga a few times and he dominated at times as a rookie and wasn't just a one zone player all the time. He's got high end skill and can be electric at times. He's a very good sleeper pick if he falls 8-10 imo.

Yeah. I don't buy that we'll flounder in mediocrity like some are saying. We might not have a forward in our group that one might rank as a '10' but we have a good solid group of 8/9s, and I think we'll add another forward in that tier in this draft. We have the assets to move up to pick #5 if needed. I still love the look of our forward group for the future as adding Tkachuk or Dubois would add another high character/high hockey-IQ guy to a core group already filled with them already in Gaudreau, Monahan, and Bennett. That's a lot of balance and it's not like they're short of potential gamebreakers.

But of course, we could also add another good defensemen to our solid defense core if the Flames wanted to go that route.

You think Bennett won't take another huge step forward next year? Or a full season of Dougie Hamilton settled into the Flames system and goaltending that doesn't let in 260 goals will still put them at 5th/6th last? I tend to disagree with you completely.

Slight favor to Tkachuk cause he's more NHL ready.
I am with you on that. They said the #4 to #8 pick any of Chychrun, Tkachuk, Dubois, Nylander and the other defenseman(I can't remember his name) will be pick in 4 to 8 position. I just hope the Flames will stay away from a D on their first pick.

He has the skill, speed, shot, IQ. He needs to add weight and consistency will come. Neither of those two things should hold hi back.

I'd take skill of size, especially with the direction NHL is headed towards.

I'm not disagreeing, I just believe that that kind of player is not who the Flames will be targeting.

Nice to see the Jets get rewarded for their strong play at the end of the season!
As an organization this is an important draft.

The more I think about it the more I think the Flames might be able to make a deal with the Jackets to get Jesse Puljujärvi. Especially if they believe Dubois will still be there at 6 or maybe they are high on Brown as well. They need a big #1 more than anything else. If Dallas gets to the Conference finals if we offer them 6 + Dallas 1st, + a 2nd could that get it done?

If they don't find a legitimate goaltender, they're not a playoff team.
