Literally.

Actually it was right then left and he covered it the third time he got it

Maybe just a bit of hyperbole there? He made a few poor plays. Period. Wasn't "all night" by any stretch of the imagination (which is mostly what people seem to use when evaluating him).

Man I get tired of the slagging.

Team had a crappy night. One goalie had a crappy night. The other wasn't stellar, but wasn't awful either. And one goalie was both outstanding and lucky.

It sure was not Smith's fault the Flames lost this one.

need a strong effort to come out with a win versus Vancouver though... gotta shake it off as you don't want the team to go into a funk.

i hope that go back to Rittich on Saturday... confidence is a big thing and i think Peters needs to show confidence in Rittich moving forward.

thought Tkachuk was a little too cute with the puck...and johnny to a lesser degree... need to be a little more direct when you are down 2 goals
Hope so too. Smith is a lost cause at this point. Seemed like he pretty much resigned to a goal at the end there, sitting on his knees not moving, was practically waiting for it. Guy doesn't deserve the leeway and good faith from coaching and mgmt he already gets.

Give the leash to the guy that has a potential future here.

Ouch - Peters WAS pretty surly in his presser, but with good humour.

I hope Kane never wins a cup, when he retires he loses all his money gambling in Vegas and has to spend the rest of his days selling used cars in Buffalo.

How many times does Johnny miss that open net? Just one of those nights.

Thought Gio had an uncharacteristic bad game tonight. He looked tired. Probably just rust.

Neal looked pretty damn good but I just wish he was a bit more relentless in puck battles and had more jump to the puck. He’s a bit lazy. I thought he’d be more of a bull dog.

I thought Lindholm was the best forward, someone else said he sucked? Sometimes I feel like I’m watching a different game. He’s got one of the best releases in the league as far as I’m concerned, he beats goalies clean consistently. Couldn’t beat the post tonight though.

All in all the flames were pretty dominant tonight. Got too cute at times. Difference was goaltending and the bounces were entirely one sided. It happens.

Will crush the Canucks on HNIC

Haha, Peters is a beauty.

Francis on pulling Rittich early: "Do you worry about what that might do to him moving forward?"

Peters: "No."

Agreed, his fault, but not the type of fault that impacts your confidence in his ability to make the next save, in my opinion.

The optics of the pull could be construed as punishment.

i'd rather take my chances that the guy who's top 10 in wins and save percentage and who paced the success you've had all season will play better the other 50 minutes than the worst statistical goalie in the league, but that's me

I like Peters but did not agree with pulling Rittich. Just my own view.

Rittich home stats are just weird. Not the good kind of weird. He has 3.24 gaa with .886 SV%.at home. I think Smith did him a solid by taking the loss so he is still undefeated in regulation at home. Starting to be a little concerning.

I knew that his home splits are worse, but those are smith like numbers... I'm sure tonight's 'start' didn't help.

Maybe it's one of those bizarre random trends like Gaudreau's second season I believe where he played the same on the road as he did at home by all measures but couldn't score away. Whatever it is it better get sorted out by the playoffs.

I think it will come with experience, maybe he tries to do a little to much at home.Or maybe to comfortable.

I didn’t say “all night”. But there was one specific shift where he gave it away twice.

May have coughed it up more tonight than Rittich on that one shift, but up the boards, which was I guess better, based on the fact that Burns scored.

Also, never said it was Smith’s fault, but making the point that he is not the solid gold stick handler that people believe he is, for some reason

Difficult game to attend. Without the luxury of replays and analysis, it seemed like Peter's misread the call to pull Rittich. Dome fans didn't like it. It's very apparent fans have zero confidence in Smith, jeering him after making a save in the 2nd and gasping everytime he handles the puck. Solid game from the Janko line, fun to watch from behind Jones' net tonight. 3rd was a blast to see live, how the #### did we not score!? Interference call in Gio was bs. Beers at game pricey but get job done. Go flames!

IMO the Flames were the better team 60-40% at least. I thought Smith was fine. He made a bunch of nice puck plays - I'm not going to complain about a muff that he recovered enough on to prevent the goal (albeit taking a BS penalty).

I counted about 4 open nets the Flames missed or were deflected at the last second. That was the difference.

I thought Frolik, Neal, Lindholm were all really good. And Hamonic - what can you say. He is one tough dude.

I don't mind building a rivalry with San Jose, plus the Flames can beat them over 7 games as it is IMO.

It's odd. Smith has two losses against SJ and Rittich has a win. But IMO Smith has played better than Rittich in all 3, since Rittich's win was that crazy one and in this one he was bad. Smith was pretty good in the first SJ game and I thought he was decent in this one.

That penalty though, its not even a weak call...the ref was blocked and assumed, Smith didn't even make contact so not gonna be on him for that one. Calgary was desperate for a goal and he was trying to move the puck. 4-2 or 5-2 doesn't matter, they were likely about to pull him if the puck went up ice.
Props.

I think it makes more sense to pull Rittich on a goal like the first one which was just plain bad. The second goal was also bad but I think it was a poor decision based off inexperience, I don't think he will make that mistake again and I would've liked to leave him in for one more goal.
