SOB may be more or less useless in every other facet of on ice ability, but he will punish anyone in front of the net. We haven't had that for a long time.

Add to that he is a very well liked guy inside the locker room, can eat some minutes, and has a lot of experience, and its pretty much a slam dunk he stays.

That has to be the worst group of RWs in the NHL.
 Stempniak, Jones, McGratten and Jackman...

Can anyone confirm if Cundari will be put on waviers in ~10 days? That seems to be the consensus on HFboards.

Cammalleri and Hudler both play RW too.

Randy Sportak has reported Cundari, Byron and Nemisz are on waivers for the purpose of sending them to the Heat. He's just reporting a report though.

I bet only one of Jackman/McGrattan play at a time. a LH shot would be moved to the right side.

Depth is more like:
Hudler or Cammalleri, Stempniak, Jones, Jackman/McGrattan

I think they will be forced to play Hudler on the right side with Cammy, Sven, Glennie on the left. Hudler, Stemp, Jones is not great but I think those 4 on the right side are okay. Centre, top 4 D and goaltending are still bigger holes IMO

I agree, I'm more just making the statement on "official designations"

Well... McDavid does at any rate. Ekblad looks to be very good but I wouldn't call him a franchise player.

Honestly though... I'm having a hard time imagining Burke and Feaster not looking at the probable $40,000,000.00 in potential Cap Space we'll have at the end of this year and deciding not to go whale hunting (Not with both Phaneaf & Kessel on the market at anyrate).

The team needs him for setting a new tone on the blue line. A tone of "we won't be pushed around" and "you better not run our goalies". Don't get me wrong i agree that he is useless on D other than that.

Watching the pre-season, and having seen the players before hand on other teams, i don't see any of Butler, Sob, Smith or Russel being able to play as the #4. They are all 6/7 d-men at best. My prediction is that the flames trade for a d-man that can play #4. It might not be a true #4 but it will be better than a 6/7 d-man playing #4. My guess is that they trade for Meszaros of the flyers. Maybe a Butler for Meszaros trade. Saves Philly over $2 million.

Everything that has been suggested here (in other topics) is that Cundari has to go through waivers to go to the Heat. I definitely thought that the Flames would do more to protect him because of that but it appears that he hasn't performed well enough to warrant that.

Personally I would be a bit upset if Cundari was grabbed off waivers. As one of the assets that we got back from Bouwmesster, losing him for nothing would sting a bit.

Having said that, not a lot of players that go onto waivers at this time of year get picked up. It seems to be a bit of an unspoken agreement to not snag another GM's assets, especially when you are about to put your guys on waivers too.

I doubt Cundari will be grabbed off waivers. He'll have to stay on the new team's NHL roster all season and if they waive him again, the Flames get first dibs on him.

Yup. It would not have mattered if he went on waivers at the end of pre-season or now. He is going to clear either way.

I do get the impression that a lot of the bodies they had in camp are starting to look like more useful pieces in years past, even guys getting cut especially some of the guys with some experience still can play a very useful role on the farm. Feels different then just counting on Sven to make it and wow us which is a lot to expect so soon, still takes these guys time so good to have more youth ready to push.

You can't risk losing what was said to be an important piece in the Bouwmeester trade to waivers.
Unless of course he's another Paul Byron special.

#Flames Injury Update: @PatSieloff will not require surgery for his broken cheekbone. He has been cleared for full participation in practice

Calgary Flames@NHLFlames5m
.@PatSieloff will need to wear full face protection while practicing/playing for the next 6-8 weeks.

Sure but how many times has their been panic over someone going on waivers, only to see them clear.

If cundari is as good as many think he is (and I do think he is that good)... He'll get to play top minutes in abbotsford and be in a great position to be a 4th/5th defenseman when guys get injured during the year.

Too bad he probably won't be able to beat anyone down now.
