Seems to me that Gillis brought this on himself by signing Luongo to the 12 year contract in the first place.

On TSN they said that Aquilini flew to Florida last night after they got the deal done in principle and met Luongo at his home just before the trade was announced today.

It doesn't necessarily bode well for them that even after talking with the owner, he had the reaction he did.

Other than 0.43 points per game and a huge gap in teammate quality.

Yeah the "#NOtradeclause" really makes me worried...

Wait... no, it doesn't.

Horvat can play LW as well and with his ability to battle in front of the net and along the boards I think he'd look quite nice on the wing. C or LW. He might not be utilized right away either, London is hosting the Mem Cup this year.

Basically I think there is nothing really to choose from between Horvat and Monahan at this point. But the Flames had to pick an NHL quality centre who can play in the top 6. They had an organizational need... no, an organizational desperation. The Canucks passed on a lottery-pick-quality talent to draft a guy who projected around 10-12.

Really, given the historical ineptitude of the Oilers, the ridiculous incompetence displayed by Feaster this year, and now the conclusion of this nonsensical goaltending saga in Vancouver, the western Canadian teams really need to be considered the joke of the league at this point.
Yeah there's very little difference between Chrystal Meth and grass except for the fact that there is a relatively huge difference.

Horvat isn't close to what Monohan in terms of skill or game.

Sorry.

I think Loungo should totally report. And in the first regular season game he should crawl up on top of the net and take a nap. He should do that until they waive him and then basically retire on the job while getting paid.

He should make ooogly creepy eyes at teenage fans, punch out autograph seekers, pee in his equipment and refuse to watch em. Hijack the Canucks plane and demand to be flown to Cuba.

Start making public appearances at the church of Satan. In interviews he should speak in the third person and have a midget on a dog collar.

He should totally inappropriately dive when he's hit with the puck (oh wait he already does that)

As long as he shows up for practices and games he's gon gets paid.

revisionist history strikes again

when it was signed people thought it shouldn't be allowed by the NHL for cap circumvention, it's a shame Mike Gillis (and every other GM who signed one of these) couldn't foresee CBA changes but it happens, was mostly thought of as a shrewd move to keep a goalie like that at such a low cap hit

with Bobrovsky wanting 6m and Rask rumored to be getting 7m per year (and who knows what Schnieders next contract pays him, if he plays like the last 2 seasons it would be comparable to Rask) I have zero issue paying Luongo 5.33

I think this is funny to state so matter of fact 8 hours after they were drafted

guys who were drafted 3 spots apart

sorry but there's a 0% chance you could make anymore than a wild ass guess as to who is going to end up having the better career

Grass - Less harmful high, not addictive but recreational fun - Monohan

Chrystal Meth - Addictive for the wrong reasons, socially destructive, destroys everything it touches and not a good way. Actually that would describe Ryan Kesler.

Lou will be 35 next year....and the guy the Canucks groomed for 8 years is gone.

Ugly trade, even if I thought the Canucks did well today with the picks they had

Ask any GM or any scout who they would take first, all of them would say Monohan is the better player.

Don't try to pump the tires of your prospect above his pay grade. He's a nice player, but ours is the better and safer choice, and will probably be the better player.

Well, CC. I see you've drawn your line in the sand. Consider my waiting for your DDPYoga review in the wrestling thread cancelled.

You're a meanie. And wrong. Mostly for what Diane (I assume his real name is Diane, poor #######) said on both counts.

probably he was ranked higher so I would fully expect it, although they said on TSN that one scouts list had Horvat at 4 so you are all ready wrong in saying all

I am not pumping anyone's tires, that is you

the draft is a crap shoot

there's going to be some random 6th or 7th rounder that ends up being better than half the 1st round, so to basically guarantee that 6th overall is better than 9th is nothing more than fanboy homerism

Maybe 5 with Monohan, More with London and Horvat.

Sorry I don't keep my scouting notes.

Botton line, central scouting had Horvat at 15, as did a lot of others. While Monohan was 5th and 6th.

So Dan Fritsche(ranked 10th) and Hugh Jessiman(ranked 20th) were both ranked higher then Carter, Perry, Bergeron, Seabrook, Weber, Burns. Being ranked higher doesnt automatically make you the better player.

Not saying Monahan won't be the better player, but to jump to these conclusions without either playing an NHL game is absurd.
