I was thinking about that when it came to the Bruins, and Krug who was a recent college FA they signed. I was hoping that we could get him in a deal for Iginla.

However, the more I thought about, the more I realized that something like that might be a bad move for the Bruins (or any team that just signed a high profile college FA) in that they might have trouble signing more college FA's in the future if they made a commitment to the kid, and then traded him less than a year later.

Kind of like trading a high profile UFA you just signed.

Lots of teams sent their coach. I know Trotz was part of the entourage to see him.

At any rate, I would be very disappointed with the Flames had they not met with him. You have to find every way possible to improve your club. Everyone though that it was a 'given' that Shultz would sign with Toronto, with an outside shot at signing with Vancouver. Edmonton came along and convinced him otherwise.

I wonder if this affects Detroit's willingness to pay high for Bouwmeester? I would guess this kid starts off on the third pairing, and will have very little (if any) impact on a possible trade with the Flames.

Doubtful, but perhaps this makes Smith a little easier for Detroit to include in a trade for Bouwmeester.
