I like Lindholm and skinner but to date their form is 40 point centre (sound defensively) and 50 point winger. I don't think Hamilton, Bennett and kylington would be worth the slight upgrade personally. I'm too unimaginative to propose something myself so I'm not having a dig, just stating I don't think I'd be a fan of that deal.
Edit: wowsers, just realised you put mangiepane in as well. Brodie, Hamilton, Bennett, kylington, left sided higher scoring prospect for lower scoring prospect, 2nds
someone who might become what Hamilton is, 50 point winger expecting a new deal soon and a guy who we'd be hoping might break out and yet to score 50 points.

I don't see a scenario is which Treliving unloads Brodie AND Hamilton. Most likely scenario is that they both come back but I can see one of them being traded. There's no situation IMO where Brad goes into next year with 2 spots on D that have to be filled by rookies.

Seems fair? Probably gotta add since Columbus maybe gets shafted a bit there.

I’d alter it slightly because we are so deep at D and not take Hanifin but Lindholm with Panarin which would probably make it more palatable for Columbus.
Solves our wing issues almost instantly; top 3 lines can all score and allows us to graduate Andersson. I could even see us flipping Frolik now for futures if we have someone show big at camp.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Jankowski - Panarin
Ferland - Backlund - Foo
Mangiapane - Shore - Frolik
Lazar, Brouwer
Giordano - Hamonic
Brodie - Andersson
Kulak - Stone

The UFAs like Neal are going to be way overpriced and likely sign for too long creating bad contracts down the line which may cost us our young stars. Only big name UFA I'd be keen on is Tavares.
The thing is players like Hanifin and Lindholm haven't even hit their prime yet. They would grow alongside our young core and potentially help us compete for a good chunk of their careers. Their value is likely only going to go up from here. Whereas a guy like Kessel is likely only to decline in value, get slower and he won't be a significant player for a decade like these young guys might be.
There's pros and cons to going proven production older forwards vs going for young guys with huge upsides. I'm totally fine with just acquiring more and more potential young stars. Hanifin IMO could easily be a young Hamilton and Lindholm definitely can still blossom into a 1st liner. I'd be fine with a proven scorer too but it all depends on the price and their contract. I'd rather keep Tkachuk, Monahan, Gaudreau, etc long term than have to deal one of them because we ended up with a poor contract on a veteran.
|
Neither is filling out our roster with former top picks that may improve to their ceilings so simple. You have to expend assets to add more of these types of players to the collection we already have. Where are we then if their production falls off or even if it just stays static? Not any closer to being a cup contender. It’s just as easy to hope they provide more as it is to hope we add a proven player on a good contract or acquire a proven elite scorer for spare parts.
I wouldn’t trade Hamilton for Lindholm or Hanifin or even both together. I wouldn’t trade Hamilton for anyone other than a proven top line RW under contract.
I never said anything about trading for Panarin without a contract, or signing Neal to a bad contract. Kessel’s contract only takes him to 34/35. Sure there is risk in a 6.8 cap hit if his production drops but he put up 92pts this year. Brouwer has been getting 4.5 for 22pts.
What number is Lindholm going to be getting?

Trading Hamilton only to keep Brodie on the left woild be asinine. Also no defenseman gets you Panarin as the CBJ have a top 5 blue line with Werenski/Jones/Savard being a simply elite top 3.
Giordano-Hamonic
Hanifin-Brodie
Kulak-Andersson
Stone
would be a much better looking blue line, with Brodie/Hamonic swappable depending on need

What if Gaudreau wants to be closer to home, because of his dad and family? Sucks for all, but would Tre do it for the right price?

Lol asinine?? Come on man learn to have fun a little; if you don’t like a lineup say as much no need to toss drive bys. We are all spit balling ideas on some flimsy rumours just have fun with it.

No. Can’t see us trading him for anything short of a massive overpayment. His contract is just too good and his peak seasons are ahead of him.

People here are claiming Hamilton is a top 2 pairing Dman, does anyone have any of his defensive metrics away from Gio. He’s got elite offensive tools but I think he’s been poor defensively when he’s been away from Gio. I may be wrong but considering he’s gonna need a big raise on his next contract I don’t really know if I would want to pay him what will be a contract fit for a no.1 defensemen.

I think any trade involving Hamilton is going to look silly right away, and sillier by the year. Anything less than that will be a decline in Hamilton's trajectory.
That said, this is pretty exciting to hear out of Carolina. If the price is right, this is a project that could polish to gold.
I'd definitely hope that Treliving is pushing Ottawa really hard on Stone before pulling the trigger with Carolina though. I think there's a real possibility Stone doesn't want to commit to what's going on there, and his brother was happy enough here to re-sign.

Having the Stone brothers could be the better brother option and may not cost as much.

Can you name some perennial Norris-candidate defencemen who by their 6th season in the league still weren't trusted to kill penalties?

Firstly, Sprong is bursting at the seams. He had 32 goals and 65 points in 65 AHL games last year, he was 20. He's got wheels and if you were lucky enough to trade for and put him on the top line with JG/SM he'd probably end up top 5 in Calder voting this time next season.
Secondly, Skinner is just 26 and already has three 30+ goal seasons and six 20+ goal season in the NHL. He is also a great skater which is a bonus for a team that wants to play fast.
Thirdly, even if Lindholm has topped out, which I doubt he has at 23, he's still a solid two way 45 point C with good underlying numbers and strong face off ability.

If Tre pulls off this deal + signs Tavares.
I'll get a Treliving jersey crested.

How is that bad value? If anything I've ripped Carolina off here.
Hamilton > Skinner > Hanifin/Lindholm > Bennett > Mangiapane
6 players moved, Flames give up the best one obviously, but in return get the 2nd, 3rd and 4th best players in the deal and they are all age appropriate.
Brodie for Sprong/Rust plus two 2nd's would be solid value. I mean yeah, Rust is a bit of a stretch, but he's still a useful player that fits a need.
