I'm a little late to the party here as well... I don't think the Subban slash is worth a suspension, but I do think PK's antics after the penalty deserve a significant fine. 10 minutes after the call you can still see PK standing in the tunnel in his workout gear yelling at the refs. The call happened and there isn't anything else that PK can do. Act like a professional and quit trying to dispute the call.

It certainly is a tough one and I bet a poll would show a 50/50 on whether further disciple should have taken place. I like PK and will continue to like him and wish he was on our team.
It doesnt change what happened and it doesnt change the NHL missing an opportunity to set a precedent. The NHL playoffs are about as grueling of competition there is. It is rough and between the Flames and Habs game, the refs did a great job allowing the petty infractions to slide by (obvious couple of misses but it happens).
There is a difference - Ferland tries to put a guy through the boards and hope he misses the rest of the series or holding your regular grip and whacking a guy in the back of the legs a couple times hoping he thinks twice about standing there VS the whole baseball grip 3/4 swing to the hands.

The NHL really missed their chance to make a point on this one and I wont be surprised to see further backlash.

The problem is this... What does the NHL do if one of the senators gives an even more viscous slash to say pacioretty (if he plays) or subban or some other important player in the next game? Do they suspend them cause the threat has been made? How fair is that since subban apparently threatened stone? They had a chance to make an example of subban and diffuse the situation but they didn't. I hope it does get out of hand an this series turns into a gong show of players targeting each other. Serves the NHL right for not doing it's job.

There's a pretty big difference between basically saying between games that a player is going to be slashed and the type of stuff said in a scrum or at a faceoff. Especially when it's a coach saying it at a press conference.

We don't even know what Subban said or did in the faceoffs.

"Making an example" of someone is never good lawmaking. And I suspect Subban can point to any number of slashes that didn't get the same penalty if they tried.

2 game suspension, nearly identical offense.

Here's the paradox:

The league values Playoff games as being more valuable than regular season games.

If they suspend largely on result/injury severity, shouldn't that be exacerbated due to the playoffs as well for the injured party?

Johnsons was quite a bit worse IMO, Subbans was a slap in comparison.

Well of course Subban didn't get suspended. He's a star player. Haven't you even read the NHL suspension flowchart???

Then to top it off, he's a Hab and a posterchild for the NHL's diversity.

So, of course there's no suspension.

But if there's even the slightest hint retaliation from the Sens, you can rest assured there will be massive suspensions.

That's the way the League works.

Some franchises and players are favoured. Others aren't.

Live with it, Princess.

It is the appropriate pathologic term in that it simply refers to microfracturing of cancellous/trabecullar bone, without any appreciable fracture of the overlying cortex. Like any fracture they can occur acutely, but the fracture lines are typically nondisplaced & too closely opposed to see amongst the thin trabecullae (ie. microscopic) on X-ray. In the acute setting we can only really pick them up on MRI because of all the accompanying marrow edema.

^ and that's probably why I've never seen it in the acute setting. Can't see on x-ray, lights up on Tc99 -> treat it. Osseus stuff hardly ever gets to MRI for me unless I need to see a joint or some obscure goofy soft tissue stuff that U/S can't pick up.

I think PK's was worse since it was away from the play

Yeah even though this injury might be there in some of you patients, it will pretty much only be picked up in people who will pay for/have access to an immediate MRI (ie. high level athletes). If you see it on bone scan it's already sub-acute.
