Ramo has the calmness. Ortio has the agility and athleticism.
Hiller..well he doesn't exactly excel at one thing, but he's decent all around when he's on. Still don't like the amount of rebounds he gives out though.

Smid and him together is a puck moving disaster though.

He needs someone who can easily bail him out when his speed (or lack there of) gets him in trouble, the problem was Smid needs the same thing which lead to them just continuously trying to reverse to each and never being able to get out of the zone.
He knows what kind of player he is at this point and doesn't try to do much more than that, when he's with Brodie or Russel he's really not bad

It will be interesting how this plays out over the next few months and who the Flames decide to keep next season between Ramo and Hiller. They can't keep both and put Ortio in the AHL again.
I truly can't make a decision right now, it all depends on how the rest of the season goes. If we can stay in the playoff mix, it will depend on who leads us there for me. It is that simple.
I believe that Ortio will become the true #1 goalie next season, so I guess that doesn't really matter IMO.
Anyway, I wasn't sure if we would have pulled that one out but I am so glad we got those 2 points tonight especially since it is looking like SJ and LA are winning tonight.
But great finish by Brodie, he is a beast and I love him.

Hiller is under contract next year and Ramo isn't, so there's that.

“@DarrenWHaynes: Claude Giroux won 28 face-offs tonight (28-7). The Flames won 27 (27-41). Bright spot at the dot for Calgary was Drew Shore at 5-2.”

Engellend had his best game. That third was tough to watch just under siege the whole, time. Johnny gets demoted to the 4th line but still assists on the game winner

Hiller being under contract is a positive for some teams that desperately need competent goaltending and don't do well attracting UFA'S (like buffalo or Edmonton). There would be a buyer.

Ramo had some terrible rebounds the last 2 games before Hiller took over, a few of which lead directly to goals. Hiller comes in, plays much better then the last 2 or 3 games that Ramo had...and after 4 or 5 games, Jonas starts to look a bit shaky, and then Ramo comes back and looks good for this stretch....by the end of the trip he could be back on the bench...rinse and repeat.
There's a reason these guys are in the position they are, together, on the team they are, at this stage in their career. Good for stretches, average for others. Seems as if it's pretty black and white when these guys are on and when they're off, so it's pretty easy for Hartley to figure out when to make the change.
With the trade deadline done, just sit back and enjoy the ride. Both of these guys have had highlights this year in net, and are good team players accepting their roles....worry about the Ramo contract in the summer, or not.

They have to lock Ramo up for a couple of years. Ramo looks like he could be a 1A goalie while I think Hiller's ceiling is as a 1B goalie.
I think they should keep Ramo and Hiller around next year. Let Ortio keep playing in Stockton and, if Ortio looks ready, they can decide which goalie they want to move.

Reason: Correction: Hiller would be a rental

Ortio has a one way and we lose him to waivers next year potentially. Perhaps he would clear like Markstrom?

I've got this feeling that the 94 point barrier isn't going to be the playoff barrier with Minny at 75 and Winnipeg at 76
a .500 record gets Minny to 96 (9-9-1)
a .500 record gets Winnipeg to 94 (9-9)
For La 11-8 gets them to 94
For Calgary 11-8 gets them to 94
There's going to be a very good team on the outside looking in.
The big advantage is that if Calgary does do 11-8 LA needs to go 11-7-1 or 12-7 to pass us due to the Tie Break. Calgary holds the tie breaker over Winnipeg and LA, and is tied in ROW with Minny who I believe holds the season series over Calgary.
Buckle up kiddies, the ride is about to be like Nascar

Ramo has been unbelievable. He reminds me of a bigger Kipper at times making clutch saves.

If you can find a team that's willing to offer a good return for Hiller at the draft, I'd take it and resign Ramo to a 2-year.

Loved the way Engelland man-handled Voracek twice along the boards and cleared the puck... he needs to keep it up.
Would make a good gif...

I don't think what they need to do re- Ramo is clear at all. Both our goalies have been on and off hot all year. At this point, there really is no reason to assume anything than Ramo is on a hot streak right now that will eventually end. Figuring out to do goalie waist has to be one of the toughest decision for Treliving when he thinks about the offseason. Nice thing for us, is between the three guys, Hartley has always been able to find one other who is relatively hot at any given point in time.

Happy we got the win, but you guys got to be kidding me with the praise for Engelland. He was constantly out of position and played his same horrible self, except this time he had TJ Brodie out there covering up for his horrendous play instead of Diaz.
Anyways, great win! Who honestly thought Monahan was going to be a 50+ point player in his second season? Kid is getting tremendously good.
