His neck does look a tad bit thicker, or at least it seemed that way lately.

If Bennett was selected by the Oilers he wouldn't have even had surgery. He would have continued to play through it, started the season with them, been in and out of the line up before finally realizing he needed surgery sometime in January.

Yeah yeah, E=NG, this is nothing new.
I hope Sam kills it in Kingston. I suspect he will be absolutely dominant after however long it takes him to get back to being 100% on the ice

I am not pretending to be an expert and I was just mentioning what I read on TSN this morning. So no need to be chastise.. I wouldn't be even mention it if I didn't read from so-called expert TSN.
Here's the link, so give me a break.

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames have sent Sam Bennett back to the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League.
Bennett, the fourth pick in last year's draft, has been out all season following shoulder surgery.
The Flames had to choose whether to keep the young centre around in the NHL or send him back to junior.
Bennett is not eligible to play in the American Hockey League because he's 18 and played in the CHL.

Not eligible to play full time in the AHL, but he was eligible for a conditioning stint down there.

Thanks for clarifying. That makes sense.
There are so many changes in rules that I can't even keep up anymore. I don't spend lots of time reading every single thread here because I don't have the time or just stopped reading when people started talking about something not related to the thread.

Sorry I didn't see this before.
NHL CBA
http://cdn.agilitycms.com/nhlpacom/P...A_2013_CBA.pdf
Section 15.6 Deals with how players who are injured in training camp are paid. If a player has played 50 NHL games (including playoffs) in the previous season or is on a one way contract, they get their full NHL salary. Otherwise they get the paid based on the following (simplified, there are more details and nuances. Read the CBA for the full details);
Annual Blended Salary = ( (NHL Days last season)/(number of days in last season) * NHL salary) + (Minor League Days last season)/(number of days in last season) * Minor League Salary)
*important to note that Minor League Days is defined as as NHL Days subtracted from days in the season and not days actually loaned to a minor league team
Daily Rate paid to a player who was injured in training camp = Annual Blended Salary/Number of Days in this season
But in the case of Bennett 15.6 (e) is applicable.
Quote:
(e) Notwithstanding the foregoing, in the event the Player is not otherwise eligible to be Loaned to the Minor Leagues pursuant to an agreement between the National Hockey League and the Canadian Hockey League, the Annual Blended Salary will be calculated using the same
method described above except the Minor League Days will be multiplied by the amount provided for at Article 9.4 of the CBA as the maximum compensation payable to a Group 1 Player who is playing in the Major Juniors, rather than the Player's Paragraph 1 Minor League
Salary.
|
Section 9.4 defines the maximum an NHL team can pay a Major Junior player as the following:
Quote:
|
The maximum compensation payable to a Group 1 Player who is playing in the Major Juniors shall be U.S. $10,500 per League Year.
|
Therefore for Sam Bennett
Annual Blended salary = ( (0 NHL days)/187 days * $832.50k) + ( (187 minor league days/187 days * $10.5k)) = $10.5k
Daily rate = $10.5k/187 = $56.15 USD
So Sam Bennett got paid $56.15 USD for every day he was in Calgary.
136 days in Calgary = $7636.40
But don't worry as pointed out previously in the thread he also has a nice $92,500 USD signing bonus from the summer.

Don't get injured if you're a big signing for the Oilers. The hype machine comes before all.
Anyway, probably tough for Sam to go back after spending so much time around the Flames but I think it'll be best for him long term. Can't wait to see him earn a spot next season.

I wonder why the Flames didn't keep Bennett in Calgary one more day. Let him be a part of the poker tournament so he can feel part of the team. He's not going to play tonight or tomorrow anyway.

This is the right move. I am feeling very secure that we have a pragmatic GM who continues to show his intelligence and patience and follow a plan of progression.
Sam Bennett is looking to be a keystone towards the future success of our Calgary Flames.
I am confident he will find his way onto the roster next year.
Flames management should keep on keeping on as far as I am concerned.

It wasn't meant as a comment on you. Just a general statement on something that was annoying throughout the Bennett surgery thread.
People would talk about the conditioning stint in the AHL and then every so often someone would pipe in claiming he couldn't be sent to the AHL. It was a cycle that repeated every week or so (at least it felt like it did).
