I agree. Sven had a little over 10 minutes of time, second lowest on the night. Now, that's because he's not on the powerplay or on the penalty kill (which makes sense). He had a couple great shifts in the first, didn't get much in the 2nd with all the powerplays and played some limited time in the third. While not an outstanding game, he did play strong, had some chances and didn't make any defensive gaffs, pretty decent call-up.

Surprised at the comments about Baertschi. Despite very little ice time, I thought he was great defensively, good along the boards, and generated a few chances.

I would give him an A- or at least a B+ for that effort.

No kidding. The frickin' Blackhawks are below the playoff line in the west right now.

I'm actually really happy right now that we are in the west. Even if that means we're out of the playoff picture a year or two longer, when we get to there, the team should be that much stronger, not just a flash in the pan.

Tough competition night in and night out makes for strong teams.

I think Sven needs a few games to break out. But he wasn't a liability tonight in any way. Had a decent game but you can tell he's got some serious rust on the offensive side of things. But once that shakes off he could bust out huge.

TJ Brodie, so far this season, is one of the best defensemen in the league.

And he isn't even the best defenseman on the team!

(though I would argue that he has actually been even better than Gio so far this year)

Habs undefeated at home?

Jooris eighty-sixed that pretty quickly...

I always got the sense Jooris was going to be one of those hardworking guys who would get overlooked for his lack of pedigree, and ultimately would find his success on some other team's fourth line.

Very happy to see him succeed in Calgary. Reminds me a bit of young Glencross, and hope he can play his way into the team's core going forward.

PK Subban had a dirty slash on Gaudreau's legs from behind on his nice set up on Granlund's goal.

Good to see he finished -3. And that rat Gallagher with his ugly face also finished -3. He loves to run goalies.

Man, what a great game. That's the first game in a long time where you could apply a Stone Cold Steve Austin catchphrase to the teams performance. Bravo, just bravo.

Flames>Habs

The sad looks on the Habs bench was the icing on the cake.

Montreal's start was a bit of smoke and mirrors, hope this was the start of a long downwards spiral for them

The Habs would be fodder in the West, I don't think they would make that playoffs and they are likely to place high in the East and maybe even start the playoffs at home.

Out of thanks but I agree. Hartley showed confidence by putting him in some tough situations like the first shift after the early third period goal, that's a huge responsibility to answer to in front of that crowd. He also played last night which might also be a good indicator of why he played fewer minutes. I'd wager Hartley gives him more time after some rest.

Great win and start of the road trip tonight. First team to beat the Montreal Canadiens at home. Flames actually outplayed the Habs twice now. The first one they could have won it also. It was a good team effort game and I can't say anything negative any player tonight.

JOSH JOORIS : He's been good ever since he got called up. 2 goals tonight and he could have scored a hat trick. Hartley is going to have a hard time making a decision when all the guys are healthy again. I think Jooris' play shows he deserves to stay.

TJ BRODIE : A few years ago, Martin Erat who was playing for Nashville was saying Calgary is beatable because they don't have a defenseman who can make good first pass and also who can't make plays. I guess that is not the case anymore. TJ, Giordano, Wideman and Kris Russell can only make that first pass and even make plays. Brodie was amazing tonight. The guy is all over the place and this guy can play offensively and defensively. Him and Giordano are by far one of the best or they might be the best defensemen tandem in the NHL right now.

Meh, I don't care what anyone thinks.

They're a team on the rise, playing great team defense, and Luongo is back to his old form. They just need to score some more goals and they'll be right around the playoff bubble in the East.

Everyone will see them soon enough. They remind me of the Flames last year, but better goaltending. Personally, I think the Flames are better, and farther ahead in the rebuild, but the Panthers are finally starting to do things the right way and it's paying off.

Gaudreau was best early in the game. He was a little more peripheral in the 2nd half. Hartley was correct to mildly chew him out after the bad angle shot. Probably told him to drive the net and then either shoot or pass.

I will get flamed, but I thought Setoguchi was OK in this game. He played OK down low, and was better than Jones I thought. He was of course behind a bunch of other players but I didn't think he played badly. I didn't think Sven had any impact at all, but likely they were just easing him in.

I had doubts about Brodie being a potential #1 d-man -- I thought he would be more of a #2 -- but Brodie is a potential #1 d-man, if not one already. Those fourth round picks are money for the Flames.
And Wideman 12 GP, 8 PTS

All three are top 10 scoring d-men so far.

Brodie is top 20 in overall scoring - all skaters. Amazing.
