The Flames dominate the best team in our division 7-2, and your first bullet point is about Butler. Come on man. I'm a little surprised you didn't find a way to rake Glencross over the coals as well.

Did the flames has a chest painting booth set up last night?

Great game by the Flames last night. Past versions of this team probably would have found a way to lose this one, which is what makes this 7-2 win impressive in my eyes. Despite getting a big lead early the team still went out and played their game. Guys were launching themselves into pucks which isn't something you normally see when a team has a 4 goal lead.

The Flames never took their foot off the pedal and never let the Ducks back in it. Usually in a game like that I have some doubt in the back of my mind but not once did i doubt that the Flames were going to walk away with the win last night.

My man crush on Paul Byron is bigger than ever.

Call me crazy, but I think Ortio should play in the AHL for playoff time rather than staying up here for 16 more meaningless games. His development would be better to play for Abby in the playoffs, and come up with us next year, having a Ramo and Ortio duo.

Let Ramo play out the rest of the year, and let Mac just sit on the bench.

Aren't we suppose to tank and not going 15-1 the rest of the way and just miss the playoffs by 2 points?

The Heat season ends on April 19th and the Flames season ends on the 13th. He could stay here for the season and still make it back for the Heat play-off run.

Or have him play against the Kings on the 9th have Ramo/MacDonald play the last two games for the Flames and Ortio would be back in Abbotsford to play the 5 games of the regular season and then into the play-offs.

I am not sure about any clear day roster (or whatever it is called) or waiver issues but I think Ortio is fine there.

It allows the Flames to get a good read on him and puts them a step ahead of knowing what they need to do for next season and gets Ortio a play-off run.

I think that Joey MacDonald should be good enough to keep the Heat in the play-off chase and it is likely the forward situation that will be a bigger concern for them anyways.

Yeah! How are we supposed to build a dynasty like the Wonderkids up north if we don't use the end of the season as an excuse to tank for picks?

My issue with Berra wasn't his save %, it was that he often let in a bad goal, which totally kills the momentum of the team. Sure, he may have saved a bunch before the bad goal, but he lets in a couple in quick succession in the third, and all of a sudden the Flames go from having a 1 goal lead to being down by 1. That deflates the whole team, and their play suffers afterwards because of it.

Exactly this^.

Berra had this uncanny ability to let goals in at the most perfectly timed spots to totally deflate a team.

The guy would be lights out all game, making circus saves, then let in a ridiculous softy, and basically wash out any benefit of making the big ridiculous saves. If he could have stopped that one or two softy a game, we would be talking about him as the future of the team. But every game, he would have a brain fart.

Well said. Its not about the stats or how many, but when.

See, this explains how little I know of the AHL... I assumed they ended a week earlier or something. In that case, Ramo will probably have to battle for the starting position again, because Ortio is doing a good job of keeping it so far.

Ramo/Ortio for next year + 2nd round pick for Berra? You can't beat that.

Shows how stats like save percentage when looked at without seeing games can be misleading or even useless.

Berra allowed a lot of weak goals and especially at terrible times while Ortio has had a lot if tips and tough to save goals go in.

Also since Berra's season didn't start on Dec. 1 and he is older than Ortio people probably willing to give the younger guy whose stays are used not just cherry picked out more of a break/get excited about him .

You know, every time I hear someone complaining that we're winning too many games, and that we should be bad for Ekblad, I have this overwhelming urge to hunt them down and either

Agrees. Hypothetically, if we were up a goal in a game 7 of the scf with Berra in net I would probably die of a simultaneous heart attack, stroke and bowel failure

Im not going to repeat myself - you should read the whole thread!

As for Glencross, he looked great last night considering his injury!
Why is it that I or anyone else for that matter cant give my opinion of a players specific game play or play through a short stretch without a handful of members thinking that we wish the person never touched a pair of skates again?
Galiardi has been raked through the coles on this forum and I have never had a negative thing to say. I dont think we could find a better 1 million dollar guy who competes every shift...its all opinionated and really doesnt deserve being called out with a sarcastic remark.
As a side note, for every player I have had a critical thing to say about throughout the season you can find another post from a different game where I praised them!

I don't understand the story with Knight's puck.

I was at the game, so I didn't see the broadcast, but after he scored, Russell skated straight to the net and it looked like he grabbed the puck (he was bent over inside the net doing something while everyone else was celebrating).

Russell wouldn't have given the puck to the linesman, would he?
