LMAO Other way around. I check out the RadFems (or feminazis) and get all riled up, then I go gaming as an outlet for the frustration of double standards and insane entitlement.

We constantly pick these guys apart 12 months a year. We analyze their performance, we gauge their reactions on the microphone between periods, and we debate everything in between, including what media journalists and TV personalities spout about their style, skill and character, and every single rumor that grows from horribly inaccurate Internet posters right to the very words from the mouths of GMs. Are you even reading the Johnny Gaudreau thread? We're picking apart the fact that he eats skittles for crying out loud. We are fans of a team and we almost subconsciously follow their every move because we want to see our boys do well and win a Cup (hopefully multiple times), a Cup - and a pastime - that holds a special place in the hearts of so many Canadians. Hockey players are under the microscope 24/7 by fans - its been that way for a long time, and it will continue to be so, especially in the age of social media and a growing social culture of free flowing information and personal spotlights on what people do on a daily basis. Don't believe me? Go on your Facebook account and observe just how much your friends/acquaintances are willing to serve up for free to you, including (but not limited to) what they had for breakfast that morning, what size of shoes they wear, how bored they are twirling their hair at work, and how awesome they feel after doing 10 jumping jacks at the gym. Don't forget the video montages and Instagram collages of their entire online life story.
Or is poking fun at sport celebrities' vacations just too offside? Do you even know what Twitter is?

ok so let's start with what you originally posted:

We have every right to dissect everything they do - multi-million dollar athletes will always be subject to that. We don't have a right to say anything? Gimme a break.
|
I was talking to your point of "we have every right". No we do not. We can dissect their play, or how their stats look or anything DIRECTLY about the product they create for us. The Game on the ice. I will agree to this. But their personal life is none of mine, nor your business. Nor should it ever be.
Now onto your asinine rebuttal. Sure all my friends and family put all sorts of garbage onto FB and twitter, so do I. But that's not for you, and even if I was famous (thank the FSM I am not) it still would not be any of your business. Who gives a Rat's hindquarters what Gaudreau eats. He can jam a truckload of skittles into his maw for all I care. The only thing I have any right to comment on is the product he brings to me. His play on the ice, and how he gels with the team.
Oh and a small pointer for you, acting all Better than You in your posting tone really doesn't make me consider your points as valid, since you needed to fall back upon an argumentative fallacy. Learn to debate like a grown up, else you look the complete fool.

Either way though a deal involving 4 bad contracts.
Not losing sleep over it because I don't think any of these guys were movable unless it was for other cruddy contracts.

I don't want to sidetrack this thread but it can't be ignored the Flames took on more money and term. If you really break it down it goes like this;
Sarich: $2 million x 1 = $2 million
Tangs: $3.5 million x 3 = $10.50 million
Total: $12.2 million
O'Brien: $2.2 million x 2 = $4.4 million
Jones: $4 million x 3 = $12 million
Total: $16.4 million
Call me crazy but if I'm doing a bad contract for bad contract deal (as you worded) I would feel like I made out like gangbusters taking back $3.9 million less than what I gave up.
Another exhibit why Jay Feaster will likely never work in the NHL again as a GM. Maybe fans don't lose sleep over wasting this type of money but if I was an owner I wouldn't be exactly thrilled especially when one of the bad contracts you took in what's looking like a lopsided trade is playing in Abbotsford with another year remaining on his 1 way deal.

Flames Owners have one of the lowest overall salaries in the league... I would think they will make quite the profit this year.
I doubt the Owners would even look at a minor trade as stated above.
They would be more interested in the path forward and how will they be competitive.
Tanguay or Sarich will not be in the league in my view when the Flames are back in the race.

I'm sorry but I'm not buying that at all that Murray Edwards wouldn't look at that.

Sarich is / was the #7 or #8 dman on a team that is going down the path at a rebuild.
Tanguay is an older player who is no longer a 1st line player.
Why would the Owners view that type of deal? Remember the amount of cap / salary which was already moved out.
The Flames would be way under the budget.... Neither asset is a core member.

Well Feaster did sign both players, lost the trade and took on more salary. Basically a triple whammy...

Oh and let's not forget those dollars used to lock up Tanguay came from dumping Regehr and a 2nd (that is, it was supposed to go to Richards and Ryan Smyth but when both failed it went to Tanguay)

Tanguay was signed before a pitch for Richards was made. So Richards has nothing to do with Tanguay.

Oops my bad. The Tanguay dollars did come from moving Regehr's contract, and the Ryan Smyth deal not working out.

Did we at least lose contract length with O'Brien and Jones? Can someone remind me? I though there was some upshot in that trade...
edit: NOPE... we have Jones until 2016 (same as Tanguay), and now have O'Brien signed through 2015. Sarich is UFA after this year. FML

But but but how could you? Colborne and Bouma are out banging hookers and snorting blow, while you, I'm sure are working out like a madman and improving your conditioning!

there is some positive to the trade.
2 players with no trade clauses that no longer wanted to be apart of the team are gone. I personally believe these players asked to be moved and with Sarich bellyaching to the media about ice-time and Tanguay's questionable attitude their trade values simply were nonexistent.
The 2 players acquired have better attitudes than the ones given up, can you imagine Sarich taking being sent to the minors in stride? I sure can't with how he complained about ice time. In t that we would have had that option with the NMC.
SOB is a better skater than Sarich and has defended our goaltenders more than Sarich did.
Jones is infinitely more physical than Tanguay and a better goal scorer. I would also say Jones is a better skater.
It's really not hard to see benefit to the deal if you open your eyes.

I also have to sy in regards to jones vs Tanguay, jones is younger and bigger.
Jones might not be worth 4M, but definitely worth the 0.5M increase over Tanguay. A little bit this year, more next year, and a tonne in the final year. In the final year I doubt Tanguay is even playing in the NHL.
That doesn't make it a good trade. But I get the point. Bigger and younger.

While I generally agree a trade had to be made, SOB being so terrible he had to be sent to the minors, isn't a positive.
