The hurricanes favor the USA and Canadian content over Europeans with the 1st pick as seen in the draft history. I would think they go monahan not the Russian.

From the research I've done to this point it's Monahan but I've been looking at a lot of players. Now that we can really focus on those two I'll spend a bit more time and see what I end up with.
This is exciting though!

If they don't I bet the Lindholm vs. Monahan debate gets decided for us.

It isn't a fact though. It's an opinion some people believe. It's hard to compare the two with Monahan being on an abysmal CHL team and Lindholm being on poor SEL team. Their numbers can't be directly compared.
Both look like pretty good offensive and two-way players from what I've read. Hopefully the Flames pick wisely.

Yup this is what I posted in the other thread:
Did some research on Carolina's past drafting history. Some would say that Daryl Sutter was the man in charge of their drafting.
Since they joined the league in 1997, the Canes have only drafted 2 players (Igor Kynazev 1st rounder 2001 and Mattias Lindstrom 3rd rounder 2009) that played outside of NA during their draft year in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd rounds of the entry draft (40 players).
For some reason they don't like drafting players that are playing outside of NA (perhaps due to lack of scouting in Europe?)
Pretty good indicator they might not pick Nichuskin or Lindholm

True, but I empathize with the notion of favouring Lindholm for that extra bit of "zeal". At the center ice position, the Flames have had their fair share of relatively unexciting, two-way, reliable players who put in the honest effort. However, I think it would be good for this franchise to draft a guy like Lindholm at the center ice position who possesses that extra flair and offensive upside.
To put it another way: assuming both guys turn out to be good centermen in this league, I'd personally prefer watching the end result of what Lindholm projects to become, myself.

this is going to be like picking the cutest kitten in the litter. some are going to like the one with the little black booties on his paws and others are going to like the orange stripes on another. Either way you end up with a cute kitten!

It isn't like that for scouts who watch these guys dozens of times over a year

The thing with the flames scouting now is there is a massive emphasis on the list. They use a lot of resources to make sure they have it right. They used decision lens to separate two equal players.

I'd say there's about a 25% chance either of them play. Monahan with a slightly higher chance.

I would hope not. Just trying to play a little on the fact that with either player there isn't that big of a talent gap between the two. The Flames will be getting one heck of a player either way. It's going to be more about what the subtle differences are that the team is going to be happy with.

Doesn't sound like Lindholm will from the article about him Swedish Flame was reading off club website
"He also says that he's going to do another year for Brynäs in the Swedish league before he heads over to the NHL. He says that his goal is to play in the NHL but that he wants to feel ready before he goes over the Atlantic and tries to get a spot."

Hard to imagine he's watched even the highlights. Judging from his posts, I think all ricardow watches is the box scores.

Backlund is the best forward on that list.

Do we really want to rush either of these guys to the NHL, and burn off a year of their eligibility so quickly? Have we learned nothing from the Oilers failures in doing the same?
Maybe give him a look, but don't go over that 9 game limit imo. I know everyone wants to get these guys in the lineup ASAP, but we most definitely don't want to stunt the progress of whoever we draft.

Nope. Other than the top 3 in this draft, I think all the rest should go back to Junior/SM-Liiga/SEL. Make the deal to give him his 9 games to get a taste and send him back.
