That implies sending him there, and having a predetermined and purposed message to present. I don't see it that way at all. And it's a pretty lacklustre message, if they did. But whatever.
|
They sent him out to the broadcast, not to Buffalo.
Yes it was a lacklustre message and he still almost screwed it up by going off script for a second before catching himself.

This wasn't Hitler speaking from high up in his castle, it was a 3 minute interview with someone who was available.

I'm not really buying that it was just some random interview that came about. It wasn't your typical conversation with the host... the dude kept facing the camera as if trying to make a speech to the fans. I don't think we need to make it a bigger deal than it is, but to me it definitely came across as a directive from above to have him on to say a few things.

Probably not crazy.
Zary has proven he can produce somewhat at the NHL. But he's already 24 and is having a very rough year. Probably not a change change of scenery trade.
Or just someone like Stromgren + late pick.
This kid doesn't feel too far off waiver fodder like Beecher.

Some people do look at the camera when speaking. I don't see that as some kind of tell that he is presenting a message from the higher ups. But whatever. Again, people are making more of it than it is, IMO.

For Lambert? No.
Lambert and a 1st for Rasmus should be good for both teams.

Perhaps Winnipeg would be interested in one of the Flames goaltending prospects. Jets are a little light in that.

I may be misremembering this entirely, but wasn't Lambert one of these kids who has a troublesome father that meddles in hockey affairs too much?
I like the idea of picking him up. Not at all similar to Beecher, lol. That is hilarious.

This seems to happen a lot in other pro sports so maybe it becomes more of a thing in the NHL. It's a pretty good sign that the relationship has deteriorated.

Even though Rasmus was very good last night.... lol
Sutter

Hanifin
Lindholm
Mangiapane
Gudbradson
Tkachuk
were all dog crap against the easily beatable Oilers with Mike Smith as their starting goalie.
Only Rasmus is left.

Not overly interested in Lambert despite the talent and skating ability.
He's an entitled kid who has forced his way off of numerous teams in the past (played a big part in him dropping at the draft), and is doing so again. Additionally he had 7 goals in the AHL last year, is one dimensional, and lacks compete. If the price was low, sure, but I don't suspect they will just give him away.

I would take a chance on him for a really low acquisition cost, but it's a massive red flag when you see his production declining post his draft year. He seems like a guy that will end up in Europe very soon.

100% agree. They are signaling they're looking to sell low, not worth trying to catch a falling knife.

I wonder what the cost would be - no way it's still a 1st rounder - but maybe a 2nd.
It's where an extra second right now would be nice because you really don't want to move your own that might be pick 32 (Since ottawa forfeits their pick)
|
We do have 2 in the 3rd round including our own, which as things are, is an early 3rd...

Lambert would block 26-year-old Morton.

Craig -> Maloney last night
I will say, Boomers tarp/roof fixing analogy was gold though, he had me in tears.

I wonder if Winnipeg would be interested in Pospisil for Lambert (assuming he'll be healthy soonish).

You're other point ... imagine if they made the playoffs last year, and got a reset on the number of years out?

I think we mostly agree. I consider the first step diving for a top 5 pick, i hate it, but thats the system, and the draft is the most efficient way to get talent for this team. I agree we need elite players, and we may have 2 in wolf and Parekh. Wolf is a later pick, so agree found money. I was ecstatic that we went with Parekh in that draft.
Just looking at the time line though, we haven't respected time in this rebuild. Realising we need to be bad next season is another step too. We're on the slow boat, nothing we can do about it now but hope they stay course.
...your last line...yeah...barf.
