This is a very good deal. He had 47 points this year. If the old rule of a million for every 10 points under a 80 million dollar cap is pro rated for a 100+ million dollar cap it is more like a million for every 8-9 points. He is already almost producing at a 6.5 million dollar clip.

Awesome signing. Great value for money compared to those Oilers deals.

This signifies that management trusts not just the skills of Coronato, but maybe more importantly his character. He’s now a foundational piece and I trust Conroy and Co. as judges of character. No way they make this commitment if they felt the room would react negative to this, so it’s hard to see anything but the good in this deal.

I remember I was driving to Regina for a show during the draft. Running out of radiowidth, I heard us drafting Coranato in a wave of static right after Medicine Hat! lol

This is a great deal, but for those crapping on Treleving, he started out doing exactly the same thing when he had cap space. Signed his young core (Monahan, Gaudreau, Andersson, Hanifin, Lindholm) to value longer term deals.
Conroy needs to avoid the pitfall of pushing in his chips too soon, which handcuffed Treleving from signing Tkachuk long term. Fortunately, he has the one thing Tre never had—a high end goalie to build around.

This is exactly the way a small market team needs to do when getting young talent. Small market teams can’t take chances on bridge contracts with talented young players. Good work Connie .

If Coronato is a 30 goal scorer, that's gonna be an amazing deal.

It’s a little wild to me that Jarome Iginla signed his last extension in 07/08, and the only Flame to ever have a higher AAV is Jonathan Huberdeau.

Great signing. And love the strategy of locking him up early.
