Yeah, no kidding. There's at least six better FAs out there, and Gay wasn't even an unrestricted. The league definitely needs a new CBA because right now it's doing nothing to protect owners from themselves.

Edit: also, how crazy is this rumour: Utah signs and trades Boozer to Orlando for Gortat, Bass, and Carter... Carter is about the last player in the league I could imagine playing for Sloan. http://dimemag.com/2010/07/nba-trade...-vince-carter/

It really pushes me away from the NBA with contracts and a system like this. It just seems like a mismanaged league, especially when you consider the amount of shady trades that have gone down ex. Gasol to the lakers

Yup, and players getting traded, released immediately, and then a month later returning to their original team. I'd really love to see the NBA implement an NHL-style CBA.

Toronto Raptors have reached agreement to sign centre Amir Johnson to a five-year, $34 million deal, agent Kevin Bradbury tells Y! Sports.

Slightly on the high side, but not awful and I'm glad he's locked up long term. Seems there was a few interested teams but he really wanted to come back to TO. Nice to see the off-court friendship that he, DeRozan and Weems have.

Lots of chatter that NY and Stoudemire are working on something. Interesting, as many of the tier 2 free agents are off the table or close to it: If Stoudemire goes to New York, Boozer goes to Orlando in the rumoured sign and trade, Johnson resigns with Atlanta, Pierce to Boston and Nowitzki looks pretty certain to go back to Dallas or Pheonix... all the sudden options are starting to look pretty slim for Miami, Chicago, and New Jersey.
Also, rumours are that Miami isn't very fond of Bosh's attitude. Apparently he's got a camera crew following him around and is making a documentary of his free agent experience. Rumours are that Miami doesn't think he's deserving of the max because he isn't as serious about winning.
Also, a lot of the early chatter about Bosh seems to be about Houston, even though they're a bit of a longshot to sign him. Still the best case scenario for the Raps (other than LA, who's been so quiet you have to assume they're not interested in Bosh).

How hilarious would it be if Bosh goes to Houston, Lebron goes to Cleveland, Chicago, or New Jersey, and Miami is stuck with Wade, Beasley, and a roster that they need to cobble together from the third tier of free agents? To me, it would be very hilarious indeed.

That really does put a smile on my face about Bosh. I've gotten sick to my stomach reading his tweets and comments about how this is what he's been waiting for, and this is what he's dreamt of forever. Really Chris, you've dreamt of being a free agent, over winning a championship? I'm sure kobe would say the same thing. It's amazing at how infautated he is with this whole thing and telling everyone how he feels. For someone who talks about wanting to win, a decision like this that will impact the rest of your career, i'd be damn serious about.

Bosh has always had a massive ego. Mind you in the NBA, there's much worst egos and attitudes out there. But honestly, I don't see his attitude and work ethic ever allowing for him to be a truly elite player in this league and be able to take a team to a championship.

Steve Blake signed with the Lakers 4 years/16 million total, very good signing, but looks like could be the end for Fisher

Bosh is a attention hoar, and basically he's going to milk this FA status as much as he can over the next week. I still think he'll go to Miami eventually as he's just roping all these other GM's for everything they got, just to be wined and dined and feel like a self-important princess. James isn't really travelling, but having the party come to him. He's not a businessman, but ever since he's been introduced to Buffett, has thought himself as one (though he's probably never lifted a pencil). How can anyone respect these primadonnas? Wade is the guy in all this who's just going about his business and is letting the pieces fall into play. I'd like to see all the fans at Bosh's return to the city wear his jersey and wear a little tutu to go with it. It's just fitting.

Random thought of the day - Lee's supposed max contract offer. I like the guy as a player and all, and think he'd be a good fit on the Raps, but if this guy was truly offered a max contract by the Knicks, this is clearly because teams have cleared so much salary that they're just doing anything crazy to not look like they failed. There's no reason a guy who's athleticism is stunted should be getting that type of deal. Same goes for Joe Johnson.

These contracts are absolutely ridiculous! It blows my mind that anyone thinks Joe Johnson or Rudy Gay is worth a max deal.

Yeah, out of the three, it does feel like Bosh is the one reveling the most in all of the attention.

Nash might not be around by the time their next contracts expire.

Disco Dirk apparently decides to stay in Dallas for 4 years for $80. He leaves a ton of money on the table so Dallas can get more players. Incredibly unselfish thing to do and he does it without a sideshow.

Cuban treats his players right and they return the favour in kind.

Dirk and Cuban both deserve to win a Championship, especially after that reffing debacle in the Heat-Mavericks NBA finals a few years back. Hopefully they find some help to get them to the next level.

Damn! It was probably a pipe dream, but I was seriously hoping for a Dirk/Nash reunion.

You got to love the NBA. Amare might sign in NY, he said he has already talked to Carmelo Anthony, and Tony Parker about them joining him next year.

Wtf? Amare is trying to lure Tony Parker? Did none of those Suns/Spurs playoffs happen?

This is like Iginla signing in New York and trying to talk the Sedin twins into joining him.

Geez, people wonder why the popularity of the NBA is going down - it seems like the competitive drive of these athletes is in the toilet. It is going to piss people off if NBA superstars just get their friends together and "go win a championship".

Rivalries? Hatred? I guess they don't exist anymore.

Amare's an idiot for coming out with that to the public. It throws Anthony into an odd position considering he has a year left on his contract. Parker, why not, as he's on the trading block apparently, but now Carmelo's going to have to answer to everyone about his desires are to stay in Denver or not. Some of these guys are just complete morons who can't think a step ahead. How dumb.

There were rumours before Amare said anything that Anthony was on the trade block because the Nuggets didn't want to be held hostage next year ala Cavs/Raps if Anthony does leave.

That, and he put his house for sale last week has lead to many rumours.

The loser of the Lebron sweepstakes will target him.
