This is NBC's bit - really nice. They have the cheer of the crowd after the last result...man just awesome!

I just hate how they showed him yawning as he was winning world cups, and how he looked so indifferent to a silver medal. They even said his coach described his as being robotic. Tough to understand I guess, not to mention him snubbing Canadian media and his own press conference.

Yah a very impressive piece from NBC. The announcers were very excited about Alexandre Bilodeau and Canada's joy, at one point the they sounded very choked up. They got so caught up with the excitement they don't even mention the third place finisher from the US.

It's not so much the fact that he chose to ski for Australia that doesnt sit well with me. It's the fact that he seems to discredit the fact that Canada is his native country. When they showed the segment on him someone had asked him when he arrived in Vancouver what it felt like to be home and his response is 'This isn't home". He may live in Australia now but Vancouver and Canada will always be home. It's where he spent the first 15 years of his life Like I mentioned above, Tanith Belbin might compete for the US but atleast she acknowledges her Canadian heritage.

That's what the Olympics are all about.

The point of this sport is to go faster, jump higher and have stronger turns than the other guy. Citius, Altius, Fortius! Glad your getting into it.

Yeah you can, go ahead and install and run the Silverlight/Microsoft plugin. It is similiar to Flash and lets you run .net on a mac (more or less). Quite impressive what CTV has done in terms of letting Joe Canadian see the live feeds for all the events, even after the fact.

######-Begg is just that. I doubt you guys got the same clip, but on Foxtel (Aussie TV), as they were leaving the event, they asked him about Bilodeau's run.... apparently "yeah, he had a pretty decent run".
Pretty decent? Sounds like you been sucking my shrivelled sour grape nuts, ya bogan.

Tha's just his personality, he probably would have described his own run with less enthusiasm even if he had won.

Awesome for Canada.
I'm fairly certain Beggs-Smith is a sociopath.

Was watching the replay on ctvolympics.ca (sans commentators) and it was funny watching his reaction when the score for the last skiier came up. Scoreboard displays, crowd goes nuts, one second passes, then you see that "HOLY SH##" look on his face and he jumps up to celebrate. Pretty cool.

The thing that bugs me about Begg-Smith is that he has no soul. If he cared about the people who helped him become an elite moguls skier, he would have stayed in Canada. When times were tough for athlete funding, Begg-Smith took the traitors way out and bolted for the all mighty dollar.

This was such an awesome thing to see, and I'm so happy for Alexandre and his brother.
But just wondering, can anyone clarify for me exactly why Alex had to quit hockey and switch to Skiing? I understand it was for his brother, but the video that was telling his story didn't really go into detail as to why he needed to make that switch. Glad he did though since he just won gold for Canada!

I think they said that it's because the brother can't skate, but skiing is something that the family could do together...I could be wrong, though!
edit: Just rewatched the video and he said it was more accessible to the family to get involved in skiing.

It depends. For some it is a strictly physical condition. I've had university classes with people with cerebral palsy, and many with the condition have advanced academic degrees and are of above average intelligence. For most though (60-70% or so), there is some degree of mental impairment, ranging from the very minor to a severe mental handicap.
