Ah, well if that's how it is then apologies. I guess one doesn't know until they are actually in the dressing room. The impression one gets from his media-attitude is that he is a complete arrogant arse.

Reporter Larry Brooks of the NY Post is probably having a few last laughs over this. The verbal battles between him and Torts was legendary. In the end i'm glad to see a guy who was jerk to media fired.

Nash was awful.
Hot garbage.
It doesnt matter how he stacks up to Richards, as Ron would say; Compared to Brad, Rick hasnt got the same resume....

I don't get this talk at all. You can argue for firing both the GM and the coach, but in both NYR and Canucks case, it was time for the coach to go. The Canucks got swept two years in a row when the team was the higher seed. If you can't coach your team to win in the last 8 games you deserve to get fired. As for Torts he missed the playoffs once, had 2 first round exits, 1 second round exit and 1 3rd round exit and progress was not made. If Torts lost the room as it has been speculated, then he deserved to go.

I strongly disagree. The worst part of hockey are the stupid cliche riddled interviews. It makes me wish all players were mute or gag ordered so that we could be spared their stupid, polite drivel. They literally say nothing.
And the media that cover hockey are terrible. They ask dumb questions that any child could come up with.
What I like about Tortorella is that he has an opinion and a personality. He is not some flavourless piece of white bread from a field somewhere in Saskatchewan.

I don't think Torts end up back as a head coach immediately. The word is out now how several players just don't like playing for him.
I think maybe a full season goes by before he is hired again.

How great would Tortorella have been in Calgary a few years ago when the team was so badly underachieving, horrible and lazy in their own end, and unwilling to play hard on a consistent basis? Instead of Playfair and Keenan, he would have been the right guy.

The solution was in house. If the owners let Darryl back after the one year with Playfair, as he wanted, realizing the full time GM wasn't all it needed to be, this team would've been much better off and won a round or two.

So if Torts take a year off does he come back to TSN next year? Would we want him back? I probably would, but he's not everyone's cup of tea.

He would have been funny to hear with the media but a nightmare behind the bench. The team would have not responded well to that approach, see Brent Sutter.

They were talking about this on 960 this morning. Sather had no intention of firing Tortorella but after having exit interviews with the players there was an overwhelming amount of players who commented on Tortorella's attitude being non conducive to a winning environment. Something to that effect.
