- Quite an entertaining match. Had more than a couple goals in it for both teams.
- I agree that we were mostly on top of the game in the first half, but even then, Halifax generated 2-3 really good chances on the counter.
- I thought Sean Rea was the Man of the Match. He was a really effective #10 today, popping up all over the place and creating chances. We really struggled to contain him. Defensively, I thought we struggled with the pace of Halifax's transition today.
- I thought there was quite a bit to like from Cavalry going forward today. Ntignee, minus his finishing, was dangerous going at defenders. He has such a directness to his play. Gherisimencov continues to impress me with his versatility and how comfortable he is on the ball.
- Warschewski was dangerous. His best move of the day set up a glorious chance for Gutierez, whose first touch got away from him, and then Ntignee rattled it off the outside of the post.
- Carducci was strong today. That was a well earned clean sheet. Yesli also had some good moments for Halifax.
- I was hoping to get clarity on the why the Cavs goal in the second half was called back. My initial thought was that it gone out before Kobza(??) headed it back across goal but someone in my section said he heard a foul was called on Ntignee for obstructing the keeper? I was eager to see it in the CPL game highlights but it's not included.
If Klomp is indeed available, I think he would make a massive difference. I know the backline hasn't really been the major issue this season but he is so adept at getting us moving in transition and he pops up for such timely goals. This game would have been a typical one where he nods in a header to give us all the points. As someone also mentioned, I wouldn't be against having a look at him in midfield as well.
Anyway, I'm still optimistic that we'll work through this slump and end the season on strong form. I'm hoping Musse's suspension may end up being a blessing in disguise and serve as a bit of reset for him and that he comes back more dangerous and consistent. But I do feel that things are on a bit of knife edge at the moment. The frustration was palpable at the end of the game today. Vancouver coming to town next weekend will be very interesting following our recent exit in the Can Champ to them. Anything less than three points will only make this cloud hovering over us at the moment that much darker.

Granted I was sitting all the way in 107 but I thought I saw a push somewhere in the disallowed goal.

Watching the disallowed goal back on Fubo (it's not in the highlights for some erason), Ntignee is standing in front of Yesli with his hands behind his back and Yesli pushes into Ntignee and falls right over. Goal should have counted
That said, we got away with a clear penalty early on when Montgomery handled the ball in the box with no one around him in the 5th minute. Calls even out.
My baseless speculation says Cavalry are holding that open practice on Saturday to announce Klomp to season ticket holders before they announce him to everyone. Lift the spirits a bit during this rough patch.

I feel for Klomp as I think he should be playing at a higher level. But will certainly welcome him back into that RCB spot. Wonder if he’d play a little RB at times too

I was at the game with several officials and we were all confused on why the goal was not allowed. We sat opposite of this camera angle. Goal should have stood. I suspect the ref got feedback from the AR about the "push". You can see after the goal is scored the AR doesn't move indicting he saw something.

I agree. I actually chatted with him about a month ago during his offseason, and he said he was just waiting for his opportunity, as he wasn’t getting minutes. Obviously that opportunity didn’t come…
In addition, he really likes it in Calgary, so I’m not surprised to see him back.
Edit - I do wonder if his lack of size is part the reason he didn’t get a real look. He's pretty small for a CB.

My latest blog and the first time I've gone with a more controversial talking point. I spent a few words talking about something that has bugged me for a while, the Warschewski - Camargo partnership

But the main thought I had leaving Spruce Meadows on Saturday afternoon was; the Warschewski - Camargo partnership is not working. In fact, I’m left wondering if it ever really worked or if the German’s individual brilliance papered over the cracks well enough that we were none the wiser.

As I look at the Cavalry team the 10 position is one of only a couple positions I think that they could upgrade on and it would make a sizeable difference in wins and losses.
The latest episode of the Foot Soldiers podcast is out!
I think they're pretty harsh on the HFX match. I don't think Cavs deserved to lose or got outplayed from the first minute. It was a pretty even match by the end. Otherwise, pretty much agree with everything they said, Tobi playing at the 10 could be a good fit, but there isn't a logical replacement healthy on the roster. Keep 'em coming
Except that 109 was louder than the 200s on Saturday!

Happy to have him back. Such a great guy too. Hung out with him and a few other players at a bar in Orlando post the Cavs Champions Cup game. Really friendly chap with a good head on his shoulders (that should help with our set plays / corners as well)

I had a blast down there in Orlando last year. Champions Cup tourism is something I hope to do alongside the Cavs many times again going forward!
