I could post the "standings" only including Tuesday and Saturday games if that fit my argument but it wouldn't really be relevant.
The big name former Flames won't be playing in the playoffs this season in all likely hood...current Flames to be determined but it seems likely to me looking at various factors

I saw the poster post a screen shot showing Flames were in 17th place which was 100% accurate. Well it was. Now they are 18th. 9th in the conference.
That’s all. Throw in some other numbers if you want I guess, or future predictions, whatever. All seems fair to me if you think the standings don’t reflect their play thus far.
I don’t get being all bent out of shape about it.

For the 3rd or 4th time that wasn't what people were arguing about...I think you know that though
It was the standings that omitted all OTL points that were questioned, for obvious reasons
Flames are 3 points behind last years pace...lets hope they go on another run in the second half like last year, well I hope so anyway

At the end of the day, the poster just made a comment that the Flames were in 'win now' mode. A very accurate statement... Then just made an observation that even though we were ahead in the standings where it truly mattered (points %), we were still 2-3 to wins below our rivals.
Seems like it's not a crazy observation. Dino making mountains out of molehills on any seemingly negative comment once again.

No I don’t really get what people are arguing about. If you want to call them 20th by some calculation and 18th in points, who cares. Seems pretty much the same to me. Comparing to last years pace seems totally irrelevant also honestly.
They are on the edge of a playoff spot and right now having a hard time beating teams they are fighting with. That’s disappointing and seems like it will have to change.
I actually thought they played terrific tonight and I’m encouraged with that. More of that and they make the playoffs.

There were multiple other posters commenting on it...I wasn't even the main one in the convo I just actually read what the discussion was about before commenting unlike a couple other posters here
Posting standings that exclude OTL is stupid though...like why would you take away all those points when the NHL counts them?
league standings are pretty irrelevant too since playoffs are based on divisional standing but who cares
When all is said and done we will see who is in the playoffs
Tkachuk and Gaudreau almost certainly won't be...hopefully the current Flames are
Tkachuk is 10 points out
Gaudreau is what 20+? who cares
Flames 1 out of a divisional spot

Sorry I didn't realize this was the only post good things about former players thread
It's certainly relevant to the discussion to that neither team the big two went to have actually improved this season, in fact they are both worse by actual NHL standings not ones that excluded points earned on Tuesdays after 8pm or some made up version of the standings.
It's less about wanting the players themselves to fail and more about pushing back on this narrative that some people seem to have that everything the Flames do is a terrible mistake and 100% their fault for how it went down.
For Christ sake we had someone in this thread argue that Vali was better than Weegar

Haha, ouch.
I'm sure that Sam will get back on track. The whole team has been bad of late, so it's not just him. They just can't get anything going as a group.

You’re what abouting all over the place now. I still remain puzzled by what was so crazy about the post you and a few others were so riled up about. I guess fundamentally they used a calculation that didn’t give Flames full credit for being 18th overall while making a point about being in “win now” mode.

The Flames are not 3pts off last years pace.
On December 27th 2021 they were on pace for 105pts
On December 27th 2022 they are on pace for 88pts
You are ignoring the Covid shutdown and the fact the Flames have played 8 more games this year vs the same time last year.

LOL. Meanwhile they hyperbolize about a poster using stats that only count games on Tuesdays or something like that.
Doesn't matter though. Tkachuk and Gaudreau's teams are losing. Those are the real goalposts.

Uh,
Last year: 36 games, 18-12-6, 42 pts, 111 goals scored
This year: 36 games, 16-13-7, 39 pts, 111 goals scored
they showed it on the broadcast last night...were you guys even watching the game?
pace is based on games played not the date obviously
what now?

Kinda funny this gets dumped on me...I wasn't even the main one arguing the point back and forth yesterday I just agreed that he posted those on purpose to make the Flames look worse and support his position.

Dino7c has this weird jilted lover/toxic ex thing going on in this thread. He's frequently looking for ways to make Johnny and Tkachuk look like losers out of the situation, and to represent the Flames' situation through rose coloured glasses.
I just want to follow some former Flames and how they're doing, occasionally cheering for their successes, and I can acknowledge that things aren't going great for the Flames this year as a separate issue. Acknowledging that things aren't going great is all my posts were doing, but he continues to use words like 'stupid' or contrived 'Tuesdays after 8pm' bs to childishly misrepresent what was actually written despite it having been explained ad nauseam.
I honestly don't know if it's intentional troll behavior on his part, but I didn't have any intent for this to become some big thing when I posted the observation that things aren't going great for a 'win now' season - something that really is a trivial observation.
Hopefully we can leave this ridiculous debate behind and this thread can include people following how former Flames players are doing on their new teams without it all being viewed through some absurd and toxic zero sum lens.

So after 37 games last year, Flames were on a 98 point pace.
Win tonight and Flames are on a 91 point pace.
Lose in regulation and they are on a 86 point pace.

And you think former players can do no wrong...Johnny is obviously a loser so far
Tkachuk is 10 points out of the playoffs on Dec 28th after hand picking 5 teams he would grace with his service
I'm not making them look like anything...they are both on bad teams, far worse than what the Flames would be if they stayed.
Sorry this is not the only positive news thread like you want it to be
Christ Gaudreau's plus minus will be around 90 goals worse this season if trends continue
Both guys bailed on my team...I have hated players for less

It is not uncommon for certain posters to move goal posts, or ignore what's being said, or clarified, to persure their pov, or agenda. For clarification this is not directed at Strange Brew, Your post and reasoning was pretty clear to me. All the poster had to say was "I see what you mean" and that likely would have been the end of that discussion.
