My cats are indoor cats ... the one that wants to go outdoors only does so on a leash.

I tried letting her walk around the yard on her own whenever I was cleaning the pool, but as soon as my back was turned, she was off slipping between fence posts, going under the gate, or jumping onto the cable box and into the neighbor's yard. Cats are naturally curious and thus want to explore..... but there seems to be a general risk associated with a cat's curiosity.

Congrats on being the sort of owner in line for a lot of heartache. You are irresponsible. Your neighborhood is not your cat's playground, and you are being inconsiderate of your neighbors.

Worse, someday your cat isn't going to be coming home.

Your cat shouldn't be out wandering the streets for exactly the same reason dogs aren't allowed off leash. Just because you love your pet, doesn't mean everyone does. And you're putting your cat in danger.

But that's what cats do... and supposed to do... is it not?

Your cat is your pet. It's supposed to do whatever you decide it does. Either be responsible for it, or don't own one. You can't just assume your cat should have free run of the neighborhood.

People get to worked up about stuff... probably cause they have nothing better to do...

Or maybe they prefer songbirds to cats. Or maybe they don't like seeing dead cats on the road. Or they don't want to see cats abused by the sickos like the lady in the video.

There are about a million reasons why you should be keeping an eye on your pets, and not letting it loose in the neighborhood.

I just love it when people let their cats roam freely by my house. (sarcasm)

Especially when my hunting dogs go freakin nuts as it walks by my window so now my dogs are high strung for an hour jumping on the furniture and barking suddenly that it scares the crap out of me so my heart jumps up to my throat.

Just once I would like to let my dogs out the front door and clean up the street. I mean hey this is what dogs do right? But for some reason my pets are not allowed to roam the neighborhood.

I had a cat go into my backyard once...once. It wasn't pleasant and I felt bad for the cat but it came into the yard. The owner of the cat wasn't mad at me and I offered to pay half the vet bill but he insisted I don't, it was the cats fault for being stupid.

^ good of you to offer to for vet bills. Hard to call the cat "stupid" though - it's just a cat! It's the owner's responsibility.

I mean, if a cat goes into a yard with dogs and gets eaten, how does a responsible cat owner say "well, that's just what cats do!"

Pets and children elicit strong defensive reactions because they are innocent. And the rebound effect is that the d-bag losers who abuse them become viewed as something less than scum.

The moral outrage in this thread is hilarious. There are threads on this board pages long about creative ways to "remove" magpies, plenty of which are a hell of a lot more gruesome them picking the Cat up and throwing in a bin.

I don't agree with what this old woman did here, and would never do it myself, but I'm not going to call her evil. For all we know that cat had been tearing up her garden, crapping on her lawn, etc. for weeks.

I don't know how I'd react because i've never had that problem, but I can tell you one thing, if I had a cat constantly tearing up/crapping on my yard, after the first few times I brought it back to my neighbour and complained and they still allowed it to happen, I'm almost positive the next time I found it in my yard that cat would mysteriously go missing. Wouldn't do any harm to the animal, but would probably drop it off at an animal shelter multiple communities away.

If hypothetically a neighbour let their cat out of the house and I accidentally run it over while backing out of my garage, I can honestly say I'd feel sorry for the cat, but would not feel any sympathy whatsoever for the irresponsible cat owner.

Weird, I can't imagine why people would get pissed off about someone elses cat crapping in their garden or kids sandbox. Not to mention its illegal to let your pets roam free. Try a leash, they were invented a couple hundred years ago, you might have seen one before once or twice. I really have no sympathy for people who let them roam free and they disappear one day.

It really is mostly unheard of to keep cats indoors in the UK. When I was still in England I had a rescued injured cat I was rehabilitating which was confined to my house and I was told I was being cruel. I certainly didn't see it that way and, in fact, had five house cats at one time. Not forgetting that man (and the occasional dog) would be the only predator of a cat in the UK. There are no coyotes in England and the next predator down the list would be the red fox which would only stand a chance against a very elderly cat or a kitten.

Theres a guy in a seedy old apartment building near me that lets his cat out of the window on a 40 feet line, I just always assumed he was a peado fishing for kids.

My mom has three cats.

One doesn't know what outside is and doesn't care.

One loves being outside, and the moment he hears the leash he is at the back door waiting for it to be put on.

The third loves outside but absolutely panics when the leash is put on. There is nothing funnier than a cat ripping through a house trying to get away from an attached leash.
