I'm hoping Mays has a big preseason and sticks with the team. The guy is an absolute freak physically.
About time Maclin signed. He's got a lot of work to do.

Seconded. Or why they dont' hire a personal effing driver, especially when they've been drinking. Idiots.
Some high profile reporters are going to Vikings camp today and tomorrow, should be good for me to read the updates from there.
Jackson's back on the field, but only working with the 3rd team, they are going to move slowly with him. I think Rosenfels is going to be the starter regardless.
Good that Harvin and Loadholt are signed, they should be a big part of the offense this year.
Still waiting to see the status of the Williams Wall issue....if they are gone for the first four games, I wouldn't complain (CLE, SF, DET, GB). The rest of the defense would step it up for those games.

Since SF seems intent on becoming a power run team, I sure hope the Williams Wall is absent.
But seriously, the first 3 or 4 weeks of the season is going to be totally different than the rest of the year simply because all the off-season suspension will occur together. Crazy stuff.

I don't have any respect for any athlete who refuses to play for the team that drafts them, I really hope Eli just busts (won't happen I know) and it turns out to be a blunder of a contract.

Eli makes more than his brother Payton, Tom Brady, Donovan McNabb, Jake Delhomme, Philip Rivers, all of which are better QB's IMO. Something is wrong with the Giants, do they not look at his completion percentage or int's? I understand he has the ring, but that Superbowl game was pure Giant defence.

I still can't believe Justin Tuck didn't win Super Bowl MVP that year. Yeah that last Giants drive will always be remembered, but the Giants DL, particularly Tuck, won that game.

I still don't buy into Eli. He's a good QB, but to be the top paid guy in the league playing in NY without your No. 1 receiver next year - he's going to get eaten alive.
The thing I hate about Eli the most is when he makes a mistake on 3rd down and is walking off the field, he looks like a 9 year old that's about to cry... Eli can't carry Peyton's jockstrap.

I think the Giants are looking forward and you're looking backwards. No QB has played under more media and fan scrutiny in the last five years than Eli -- and there was a lot to scrutinize up until about half-way through the 2007 season.
But since then, he's led the Giants to a Super Bowl win, their fourth consecutive playoff appearance last year (first time in over a half-century), and had a career year in terms of QB rating, comp. %, and interceptions.
There's no way he's the best QB in the NFL, but up until today, he was probably the best QB without a long-term contract... you can compare his numbers to McNabb, Rivers, or Delhomme... but none of them have Super Bowl rings and ultimately that's the most important stat. The fact that he's been able to get better and better under such a microscope in NYC sets him apart from his peers as well.
So the Giants had to either pay up or risk losing or franchising him after this season. And while they certainly paid A LOT of money for him, it doesn't seem out of line with the market rate for franchise QBs. Matt Stafford got $72 million before playing a down. Matt Cassel got $63 million after an 11-win, non-playoff season. So $97 million for a 5-year starter who has gotten better and better and has won a Super Bowl seems pretty much right on to me.
He'll miss Plax and Toomer, but the Giants have a very deep, young group of receivers and one of the best running games in the league. I don't think he'll miss a beat.... (and this is coming from a non-Giants fan).

Niners aren't close to signing Crabtree. Both sides agree they are far apart, and some rumblings from Crabtree's camp (although denied by both sides) that Crabtree is willing to sit out the year and re-enter the draft.
Has a player successfully done that in the NFL?

In regards to a player that's been drafted by a team, don't think any player had done it. Probably because it's the stupidest thing to do, the closest example we'd have is Maurice Clarrett's year off.
The 49ers will own his rights until draft day 2010, meaning he can't talk to any other team, workout for any other team, attend the combine or anything really without consent from the 49ers.
This kid is getting a little greedy, but I have to wonder if it's the agent and not the player.

Well, the Niners are saying this is the deepest they have been at WR in years, so they aren't willing to be forced into anything. So far in camp Josh Morgan has been great. He was good in his rookie year, but pretty raw. This is his sophomore year so I'm hoping I can pick him up as a bargain.

But we don't know what the average salary for the years of the contract that will actually be played out. The guaranteed money is all that matters in the NFL, $35 million, likely in the first three years, that averages out to less than $12M a season.
It's always a joke when media outlets report the TOTAL contract amount for NFL contracts - no player is ever payed every dollar of his contract, especially on these headline-grabbing-number ones.
They could have signed a 6 year, $1.2 Trillion dollar deal for the difference it would make. The media would report that the contract is worth an average of $200 billion a year, meanwhile Eli would never receive that much, since the contract would be torn up long before the end payout was due.

Crabtree would be an idiot to sit out a year and re-enter the draft. Does he think by taking a year off that he will be drafted higher than 10th overall? He would slip in the draft and be offered even less money than what the Niners are willing to pay him now. I'm sure the Niners know this and are willing to play his bluff. Does Crabtree have a family member or one of his Homies as his agent?

Peyton gets mad... Eli just sulks. Talent wise, there's no comparison, IMO. Plus Peyton does better commercials.
Re Crabtree. I knew this was going to happen. He's going to be a headcase his whole career I bet. I'm not happy the Raiders took Bey, but I'm sure happy they didn't take this moron.
