I think Pelletier will for sure be gone if they decide to waive him... his first two pro season were great, he showed good progression and only got derailed last year by injury. With the way he plays it's not like he needs to be a top liner 1st pp unit guy either, a team with no pressure on them to win will grab him in hope he can be a 30-45 point forward in a middle six role. Another team not in win now mode grabs him and cameos him for 10-20 games, they lose nothing at all.

Would be a real shame to lose a player like that in a rebuild before you know what you have and run with such a veteran heavy top 9. Hopefully they can fit him in and bump somebody like Duehr or Rooney instead

Waiving Pelletier in favor of Kevin Rooney would be the worst move of Craig's short tenure.

Yep, he's a former 1st round pick who put up almost ppg numbers in the AHL over 100+ games. Last year might have derailed his development, but I'm sure there are other teams willing to take a gamble on potential when it costs nothing but money and a roster spot.

People on here better get use to losing prospects on waivers or for pitance because we have a ton of prospects in the system and we likely got 2 more drafts with 6-8 more 1st and 2nd rounders coming and likely a few new prospects in trade. In 3-4 years not all of these guys are gonna cut their teeth on the flames NHL roster.

CP was beside itself when the Flames lost Phillips...one poster even said they should have given him 3x4. Since then he has been waived 3 or 4 times now.

Its the nature of sports fandom to fall in love with young prospects.

Very true - remains a reasonable discussion for now re: losing a spot to a Rooney or Hanley as 8th D - for sure it will be a happy time when good young players are making less good young players redundant

I really don’t think Calgary signed Pelletier to lose him on waivers, however the play of both Klapka and Honzek may have changed that. It’s probably the most interesting thing to keep an eye on here, who’s going to be sent down and or do we see a trade happen…

Currently sitting in the worst Canadian airport YYZ , I’ve inquired to see if there’s any updates on Jacob’s status

I think we could see Pelletier on waivers in an attempt to "sneak him through", lots of teams have one or two guys in this ilk at this time of the year, most years.

Personally I think they should just leave him with the big club, even if he rotates in & out of the press box. Give him a shot, it's the year to do it. If he struggles or doesn't seem to be figuring it out then you can look to trade him or put him on waivers and at that point his perceived value may have fallen off anyway.

Pittance is better than nothing. I think thats the point most people are making when they say losing him on waivers is poor asset management. Even a late pick is better than nothing.

Its moot. They’ll put him on Backlind the problem solver’s line and Pelts will be fine.

What time do teams generally release news regarding demotions? Are we expecting to see a bunch today?

People woulda had a meltdown if we traded Pelts at the draft for a 3rd or 4th rounder, by trading him now you aren’t dealing from a position of strength and other GMs will know that. I’d rather see how he does in the AHL if he clears and if not he’s gone and Honzek or Coronato’s path to NHL is better. He doesn’t look irreplaceable, I think we have a few just like him that can play 3rd or 4th line minutes and make a bigger impact.

Leafs waive Nick Abruzzese.
I would claim him

25 year old version of Rooney with some offensive playmaking upside. He centered Coronato during his freshman season

This is the kind of player Conroy should take a chance on.

I'd put an in for Nicholas Abruzzese if we need center depth (and assuming Rooney isn't around much longer).

Ethan Bear. That's a surprise, but then I haven't been following him lately.
