I actually think he is a pretty good player who was hampered by injuries early in his career.
He'll give good value for his pay and where he's likely slotted.

Pitlick is so good, that every year he is on a new team, because every team wants Pitlick. He gets paid slightly more every year, until eventually he stops going to new teams, and that final team will be the special lucky team.

Wow, I’m impressed.
A lot of really smart people here who have a thorough knowledge and understanding of what Tyler Pitlick bring and his limitations. Sounds like the CP mob, once again, has it figured out while Treliving and the actual team of hockey executives around him continue to run a muck of it.

Then how will we ever trade Tkachuk? Unless, of course, our coaches are part of the deal.

who on the UFA market is as good or better than Pitlick and how much do you think it would cost to sign him?
Honest question as I don't know 4th line depth players across the league with any degree of certainty
Pretty much the entire 4th line + 13 forward will be replaced this summer. Ritchie gets one spot, maybe Gawdin gets another. Still two spots open. Players like this are needed, whether by trade, UFA signing or from within

You're right, but it's just a big bag of nothing to me. I'm personally hoping to see bigger changes coming up. The 4th line wasn't our issue last year so this rumored trade just seems inconsequential.

Not too excited about this potential trade, even if I think I understand it. He fills some holes being a bigger, right-shot player who has experience on the penalty kill. He seems to be a player that will suit Sutter's checking game style, so that would be a plus.
For a guy that has played years in the Western conference, I can't place him in my mind at all. He's pretty big and can skate, so he will help the team forge that Sutter identity and I won't complain about that.

People: don’t trade picks away for nhl player. That 5th rounder could be amazing
Also people: our drafting and player development sucks. We are terrible at it.

Is he going to make life tougher for those who play against the Flames than Derek Ryan?

That is the positive outcome in this, he's a Darryl Sutter type player. Moves like this were predictable, but it still sucks to see assets wasted on bottom end players.

Not a bad pick up if true. Pitlick obviously isn't the gamebreaker we desire , but he plays the right way and brings some depth to the bottom 6 . Should help us pick up few points. I don't normally like the idea of moving mid round picks for depth but with the uncertainty surrounding scouting this year I could see more whiffed draft picks than usual.

Pitlick is very similar to Barclay Goodrow IMO.
Both 6'2" around 200 lbs.
Neither provide much offensively. Pitlick is 0.3 PPG the last two years. Goodrow is 0.36 PPG.
Similar advanced stats profiles the last couple years (Pitlick actually profiles as a better defensive forward over that time).

Also, Pitlick = Big, Big = Good
It's a Sutter-coached team and this looks like a Sutter player

There's no way this is true.
2008: 7 of the third round picks have played 100+ games so far.
2009: 8 of the third round picks have played 100+ games so far.
2010: 7 of the third round picks have played 100+ games so far.
2011: 11 of the third round picks have played 100+ games so far
2012: 14 of the third round picks have played 100+ games so far.
2013: 9 have so far.
Looks to be about 31%.
And this disregards the fact that a handful of those guys are star players (especially goalies).
And again, the "third round picks rarely play" logic is ridiculous. A random team like Anaheim should spend 8 third round picks on Rinaldo's rights then, since Rinaldo has played in the NHL.
Someone like Adam Fox, a third round pick, has more value than all of these guys combined: Bollig, Pitlick, Gustafsson, Forbort, Fantenberg, Smith, Lazard, Elliott, and Hamonic.

This would be such a bonehead move
Guy isn’t even worth his cap hit for what he brings, 3rd round picks are valuable, and free agency is about to open where there are always Tyler Pitlicks available for cheap
We have a bottom 5 prospect pool and we just missed playoffs. We need draft picks.
