They could have waited a week and signed him in free agency. He signed for $1 million. Seems likely there weren't many suitors.

Calgary didn't leave anyone unprotected that Vegas liked. That's a good thing for Calgary.

I kind of wish someone would just claim Wotherspoon. It would be best for everyone for him to move on.

I'm expecting all of them to clear though.
Yeah, not quite.

I still think Shinkaruk has the duration of this season to make some sort of case for himself.

Same with Poirier. They're coming onto their last legs but they haven't hit their best before dates quite yet. They need to go into the season on a mission.

Wotherspoon on the other hand may have plateaued at this point. Can't be developed much more in the A but doesn't seem able to take the next step.

Kulak is lucky, he's done nothing well this pre-season. Really feel he has no place in the NHL. He's an AHL player.

So yeah, time to fish or cut bait.

I had high hopes for Spoon, but now I'm just tired of reading about his inevitable annual cut.
You'd have to think he would want a fresh start somewhere else as well. Seems like he just can't crack this lineup and is being jumped by a couple d-men or UFA signings keep pushing him down the depth cart.

I think Valimaki gets sent to juniors before start of season. Andersson has outplayed Bartkowski and Kulak, but being a right-handed shot limits where he can go. Kulak last night went from terrible shift to redemption shift and back again, gotta be more consistent as a #6. Bartkowski was pretty much invisible, which likely means he was doing a good job. I think Bartkowski is the #6 and Kulak is #7 -- Andersson will be the first call-up. Maybe try Andersson on Stone's left side? Andersson has earned the #6 spot IMO.

Uhhh no. Shinkaruk is not likely to be claimed at all. I'd be floored if he was claimed.

The problem with Shinkaruk is that he hasn't really even shown a glimpse of good times to come. At 22, a forward should at least be able to offer a teaser of what he could become. I feel like the guy has been invisible in pretty much every opportunity with the Flames.

I still have hope for Poirier, and hope (and expect) that he clears waivers.

good god, how is bartkowski still on the roster? if he were a young player playing the same style of continuous disaster he would have been sent back to the chl in the first round of cuts

Part of it is that he is his own worst enemy. Same could be said for Kulak. I think both players were given a lot of rope and they never did anything with it. This organization desperately tried to get someone internally so they could sit Wideman. It wasn't until Bartowski was brought in that they were able to sit Wideman. Then again this season that spot was theirs to lose and they are playing that way. At some point you have to Shia Labeouf it and just take it.

I said it before, it is kind of a red flag that these guys keep tripping over themselves with the opportunity present. At this point I would rather give the spot to Andersson the minutes would be somewhat sheltered and his ceiling is way higher than Kulak and Wotherspoon.

fingers crossed for Poirier. I still see upside there and I would love it if the Flames could continue to work with him.

at this point, I'm not too fussed about Shinkaruk and Wotherspoon. Shinkaruk seems to be the classic bubble player that is doing fine in the AHL but can't stick in the NHL. Wotherspoon has had many chances now, and if you can't make the team over Bartkowski ...

hope Bartkowski and Gazdic hit the waiver wire soon.

Well he signed with Vegas before the July 1st deadline so any additional suitors would have resulted in a pretty steep NHL fine.

Plus Andersson's a really funny guy. He would help boost morale in the dressing room with his humor.

I want to see Andersson chirp "five games in the show" Boeser in a regular season NHL game.

Do it GG.

Klimchuk still on the roster? Or does he not need to clear waivers?

He was on the ice with Stone on 1 of the 4 Jets PP goals... the rest of the time it was Stone/Bart/Monahan/Lazar as the try to PK (Tkachuk instead of Lazar on the 4th goal)

I still have hope for Poirier as well. When do we know if they clear?

It is even strength that counts. I don't think our 6th Dmen sees any PK duty when the real roster is set.

Kulak's game last night alone was nail in the coffin for me.
He's been given ample opportunity and at times has a flash of brilliance, but those usually come off of mistakes he's originally made and had to back check to makeup for etc.

When on the PP last night he tried to walk the line and got poke checked by Copp who went in for a glorious chance on the breakaway vs Lack I found myself just shaking my head. Bonehead move, he was looking at his own feet/the puck when it happened.

I'd be utterly shocked if Anderson isn't picked as 6 or 7, he's done everything he can to stay up and has outplayed both Bart and Kulak imo.

On the flip side I think Valimaki COULD play but there's no reason to rush him, I think he could still use a year or two to finesse his game some more but I don't think going back to junior is the best choice either.

Why? He'd be on waivers just the same as Shinkaruk.

He put up some meh numbers on a pathetic team with minutes way above what he'd get here. I don't miss Granlund at all, and you can bet the second the Canucks pull themselves out of the toilet he won't have a place with them either.
