Under the radar, but a guy who has impressed me since junior is Tristan Jarry. And since the Pens don't want to trade Murray, could be worth a mid-round pick:

Reasonable size with NHL-level mobility.

Not going to get into it as I can't disclose due to the role in the organization but there's a reason I've been saying for a while that there will be an all new tandem next season. Rather than question my source or ridicule me I suggest you just be patient and let things unfold where you will see that I've been right on this. I've been here a while and don't do this unless it's from this one source.

Antti Raanta. UFA-so we won't have to give up assets, and he's young with upside.

Assuming that Treliving's plan is to fully wipe the slate clean, that leaves trade and UFA options. Say hey keep Ortio on RFA and play him out his 8 remaining games. They can then trade him to a team as part of a package. We know Trelving isn't shy about trading picks for the right kind of player so knowing that, the Flames have two extra 2nd rounders to spend on a keeper.

We know he's not going to spend those picks on vet goalies, so the plan is to pick off an RFA type up and comer like Murray, or a signed Keeper at a good age like Mason or Andersen who have years of control on them.

Who knows how it'll shake down. I just hope they get it right.

If the Pens really don't want to deal Murray then we aren't getting him because he's not available.

Andersen in ANA is one of the most reasonable targets since ANA is transitioning to Gibson as their franchise goalie. So he should be available for the right price. I hope they are exploring that after the season ends. They probably know they'll have to deal him at some point soon since Gibson will be getting the majority of the starts next year I would think.

Maybe ANA is hesitant to deal Andersen to a division rival. Maybe they want more from us than other teams.

Assuming this is correct, maybe trade for Fleury.

Get's Pitts out from the contract!

I was using Murray as an example more than anything. He just became CP's most wanted so I played on that a bit. But he ticks all the right boxes for trading picks for a player the Flames should be targeting. Young, Lots of years left of control etc etc.

Does anyone know if Backstrom has been on the ice with the Flames since the trade? I hope he gets into the net soon. I would see him and Ortio play out the season.

Yeah, he's been practicing already. Looking close to a start I imagine once they get back to CGY?

Ya because they're going to start Murray next year. Why in the world would they want to start him behind Fleury for a year or two. That would just make too much sense.

Would you trade Gillies for two 2nds after he had 2 amazing seasons in the AHL? That's what Murray is to the pens

But that is about what he is worth, judging from the trade market for goalies over the past few years. Not that I think Pittsburgh would let him go.

Goal tending is our Achilles heal right now. It's so difficult to accept for all the years we had one of the best.

Situation needs to be addressed and whoever is "willing" to help us out will want to extract a high price.

Lets' hope Gillies or Macdonald can progress to the point of being outstanding for the team.

Hard to tell how good/bad our goal tending really is. This team is sadly lacking in defensive play. Some nights our defence is pathetic.

Sure. Why not? You'd be trading a 3rd round pick for 2 2nds.

Pittsburghs situation is vastly different than the Flames' though. They have Fleury and behind Murray there Jarry not too far behind.
It's very similar to the L.A kings situation for a few years now. Quick anchoring the #1 spot, Bernier as back up and Jones not too far behind. Now Jones and Bernier are long gone from the Kings organization.

There's are the kind of Goalies that no team wants to get rid but they will when they have. And that may be soon for the Pens.

But, if you read my following post after that, I was only using Murray as an example of what Treliving might be targeting with those extra picks. Not the player himself. Although I'm sure he'll try again and again.

Good goaltending masks those gaffes. Kipper masked a lot of defensive deficiencies during his Flames tenure. And even then the D was so bad he couldn't hold it every night. But at least he gave them a chance to right the wrongs. Flames haven't had much of that this year.

That is about going rate. But it will take more to get Murray.

Agreed and hopefully we'll get another Kipper one day. In the mean time we need to play better defence.
