This season is about developing players. Shore needs to be in the NHL to develop, therefore, regardless of the standings or some other fits on the team, it's best for him and for the Calgary Flames to have him seeing NHL practices and NHL games.

If that means Granlund gets sent down after playing well in his stint here, fine. If that means a veteran or roster regular needs to be moved shortly to accommodate shore being on the big club, fine.

I'm glad he's been called up, I think it really indicates the trajectory that management sees from this team. No more 'going for it'.
I agree with your post. But re the bold: what have they done to date that would suggest they were ever 'going for it'?

In contrast to the Oilers, the Flames are going for it.

I wonder if they called him up because he was a Shore thing.

Can't be worse than Setoguchi.

That is actually significant. Gaudreau makes the team, changes from 53 to 13 before playing his 1st game. Jooris gets called up, wears 86. Granlund wears 60. Jooris and Granlund. Neither player, at the time of their callup, had made the team.

Shore gets a number lower than 35. Does this signify that he has made the team?

Kind of interesting that there is a lot of push back here because Shore hasn't proven himself at Adirondack.

He was on the USA team at the world's with Johnny Gaudreau. He played a full 43 games out of 48 NHL season as a 21 year old. He made the jump from NCAA where he scored 54 pts in 45 games as a junior and made the jump straight to the NHL only playing the AHL games due to the lock out.

He had 30 pts in 41 games as a rookie pro playing in the souped up due to the lock out AHL. In that same period Baertschi got 26 pts in 36 games solidifying him as the Flames clear cut #1 pro prospect.

Had he been a Flames property from the get go there would be no argument about him being ready for a shot with the big club.

On top for that he has size and had sufficient grit as a 21 year old not to be labelled a soft player by the RGI.

Well the writing is pretty much on the wall with his waiver eligibility

My understanding is that because he was called up, he can't be sent down without risking waivers, so he'll be a Calgary Flame at least for the rest on the season.

Maybe does, but Knight wore #10 every time he got called up.

He has to actually play in order to hit the number of games trigger

Until then, he could be sent back down without waivers (i.e. if he only practices with the team)

Bouma-Shore-Colborne

That's an interesting line with speed, size and some skill, could be fun to watch.

I keep hearing everyone say he is up for good now. But as far as I know he needs to play two games in order to no longer be waiver exempt. So the Flames could have him play one game and still be able to send him down. Not really the best to have to judge things off of one game, but if they decide that it didn't work out they could still give him some more time in Addy to learn the system before he has to be brought up for good.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

One game until he's waiver fodder.

This is what I think. Tallon said he was doing the kid a favour, a "solid". He had other suitors but maybe we were the only one's that could promise to get him into the NHL right away.
