I've obviously been guilty of a misapprehension of some sort regarding Clowe. I always assumed him to sort of be your typical run-of-the-mill grinder type dude, but looking at the stats, I guess he can score as well. In any case, he's yet to pot one this year and I've seriously been wondering why there has been so much heated discussion regarding him and supposed desire from around the league?

You're right.
Kid is an absolute turd really.
You hear that Holmgren?
An absolute turd.

He showed last year, especially against Malkin in the playoffs, that he can be an excellent shut-down centre. He has not had a good season, and that's why he's being shopped, but the potential is still there.

I wasn't talking about this year, I was talking about next.
Can't assume that Briere is out next year.
With my prior numbers though, I forgot to take out Cout, so with Bou in and Cout out, and ignoring Pronger, they are at $63.7Mish with 18 contracts next year

I'm told a Ryane Clowe trade is likely to happen today. We'll see if he comes out for the morning skate in an hour. #SJSharks

He's -12, not -17. Moon is right it is a garbage stat, but if you are going to use it at least get the number right.

If he is over hyped what does that say about what posters think of our prospects? Did you see him last year in the playoffs? The kid is going to be a future selke winner.

Don't count out Boston just yet. Sharks are on the phones with Boston this morning as well.

I think it's simply he's a big centerman with top 6 potential. We're lacking in the potential top 6 centerman category with only Backlund, maybe Granlund, and a longer shot on Jankowski. Now that it looks like a rebuild is the plan, Bouw for Couturier = win.

Granlund is a longer shot than Jankowski.

I get that he's big and played well last year, but do we really want a player that's could just be a 3rd line center for bou, when we could probably do much better.
It would be robbed by San Jose to get him for a scrub like Ryan clown, but Bouwmeester has more value.

He'd be Calgary's best centre since Conroy's prime.

He is a good 3rd line center at 18 so not really that big a stretch to think that he would at least be a 2nd line center if not 1b center.
I would expect anything we get back for Bouwmeester has a lot less chance of turning out than Courturier does and getting him 1 for 1 would be a big win for the Flames.

If clowe is traded for such a young talent then it has to be a sign and trade type deal.

I don't either it was pretty shocking to see him defend Sean.
To be honest I haven't seen him a ton, he was great in that playoff series last year, then again everyone looked great.
I thought the reason he fell was limited upside offensively, but if he could be a big strong 2 way 2nd line center in the mold of a Ryan Kessler is be all over that.

Garth Snow, Holmgren, Tambellini and Feaster likely sit at the kids table during the GM meetings.

He actually did pretty well in the Carter/Richards trades. Voracek, Schenn, Simmonds, and Couturier himself for two guys signed to extremely long contacts. Those contracts themselves may have been bad, but they got great returns for both forwards. Voracek and Simmonds have more points that Carter/Richards, and Schenn is right around there as well.
Those were great trades if you ask me, especially that he was able to shake up the lockerroom as well.

I think this is pretty close, and there's nothing wrong with that. Langkow was a 60pt player with great 2-way play in his prime. Couturier has better size than Langkow did also. I don't think he's by any means that elusive #1 center, but anyone who thought O'Reilly was worth getting should be very interested in Couturier. Very similar games, but Couturier was a much better scorer in Juniors.

I would eat half of Bouwmeesters Salary to bring in Coutourier. We need his size at center.
