Who was it that ripped you off? Let us know so other CP members don't get ripped off by the same guy
I know the mods removed the name of a guy who was accused of selling a broken microwave a few years ago, so I'm not sure if they're cool with public accusations. If one wants to weigh in, I'm happy to post the name. It looks like he hasn't posted for about 4 months anyway though.
Edit: Just be clear, the microwave guy was not the guy who ripped me off.
Sold the TV last night, turns out my misgivings were nothing but a figment of my imagination. Thanks to kijiji I now have some $$ burning a hole in my pocket....
Yeah, I have never been ripped off on Kijiji, but I had a guy burn me on a set of tickets on here once. All I asked for was a bottle of Crown Royal, as it was a last minute thing, and he didn't have time to hit the liquor store before he picked em up. He promised me he would drop it by my work in the next week or so...... crickets.
I remember that game unless you had more of them. I wanted those tickets even had the bottle of crown kicking around at home but that guy beat me to it!

I thought you got burned by someone wanting your season tickets. Or I could be thinking of somebody else on here...

Whoa whoa, lets not get our names crossed, as your sentence is a bit confusing. Your airline credit thief (whoever it is) has nothing to do with my microwave drama (which I'd be glad to debate about for hours, but lets not open that can of worms..again )

That wasn't me was it? I know we've had one or two ticket transactions.
My warm greetings to you in the name of our lord Jesus Christ. I am very glad to receive your emphasize mail this morning concerning your zealous interest over the work of God and for this fund which i am entrusting in your hand for the work of God. Really to meet you as a good person was my often prayers for God to provide me someone who will not betray or disappoint me in this vow which i made to God . The bible made us to know that all things works together for good to them that believes in Christ Jesus, as he works mysteriously and his ways and ours as human beings are not the same.
Before the death of my late husband we are happy husband and wife Christian family. Since his death I decided not to remarry or get a child outside my matrimonial home which the Bible is against. When my late husband was alive, he deposited the sum of (USD$12.7Million ) Twelve Million seven hundred thousand U.S .Dollars with a bank and the money still with the bank here in Abidjan capital city of cote d'Ivoire.

My motivation of making this decision to donate this fund for the work of God is because of the predicament which i found myself into and the humiliations after my marriage without any issue which i decided to take all i have in this world to honour God as i know that every soul shall give an account of his life at the last day in the presence of God ,
Base on your mail ,i am well convinced that you were sent by God to fulfil this promise to his glory ,all I want you to do is to try your best to make sure that you use this money to the glory of God as my health condition could not permit me to do anything by myself ,as soon as the security company moved the fund to your possession , I want you to keep %30 OF THE FUND for yourself and use the remaining %70 for charity work.
considering my detoriating and ailing health in which I am faced with life uncertainty, I want you to give me your word of honour that you will use this fund as i have indicated above , to use the 70 percent for charity work and keep the 30 percent for yourself as the blessing of God to your life,i want you to promise me that even in my absent in this world that you will continue with the Fear of God,
I also want you to send me your direct contact information to enable me obtain an authorization letter in your name that i have officially and legally approved you as the next of kin to this fund from the Federal Ministry of Justice to declare whole heartedly that i have made you the beneficiary to my inherited fund with the bank here-in Ivory Coast, so that even if i am no more you shall continue from there and request for the release to your possession without any problem from any body.
The information are as follows:
Your full name, Home and country address and your phone and fax number ,
as soon as I receive your response to this message I will give you the full information of the bank were this fund was deposited by my late husband so that you can contact them immediately for the transfer,I will also instruct my lawyer to amend my last WILL to your name so that you can claim the fund without any problem,
Please ,remember to put me in your daily prayers for God's healing in my life
Thanks and GOD bless us all in his infinite goodness and mercy

Mrs. Edward,
I'm excited to hear from you again, when I didn't hear back right away I was worried this may be a trick but I see you are working in the name of God so I know I can trust you going forward. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your husband and your health issues but God has a plan and one day you and your husband will be reunited. As a fellow Christian I know the importance of helping others and I’m ecstatic to have met someone like you who is so willing to help in a time of difficulty. However, I don’t know how I feel about accepting the 30% of the funds for my personal use as I feel I would be taking from those who need the help more than I do. But with no doubt I will award the 70% to worthwhile charities, I’m not in the business of ripping off good people who deserve better.
The Ivory Coast is a beautiful place I would love to visit it some time in my life. What part of the city do you reside? Maybe there is a chance I could use the money to meet you and help those within your community as well. I would love to see this money help all parts of the globe as it will obviously go a long way being such a large sum.
Unfortunately I don’t have a fax number to provide you so I’m not too sure what to do. What is the name of the lawyer contacting me?
As a fellow Christian I am sure you are familiar with Corinthians chapter 7, verses 14-20 and I look forward to working with you.
Godspeed,
Kelly
Kelly isn't my real name just a fake gmail account I started just for this. They didn't even notice it was a different account as I'm sure they just spam the s--t out of people. I'm trying to be obvious but not straight up tell them they are wasting their time.
And if anyone is wondering the verse I quoted is:
Quote:
Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

That probably hit the "soul" hard eh? If I had the "choice" I'd out the person who did that to you.
I'm looking at buying a vehicle and am just wondering how this works on kijiji in the sense of getting it checked out and things like that? For my own protection I would want my mechanic to give a vehicle a once over before I buy, but obviously no one is going to want to give me the vehicle to just drive away.
Also wondering about what scams I might need to know about? I wouldn't even ask, but one vehicle I was looking at was reposted by someone saying the sellers were running a scam. How would that work? I obviously want to make sure I don't fall victim to something here!

You went off on MMF about tickets a little while ago, so I gotta assume it was him, amirite?

The only problems i have had in kijiji are people low-balling upon meeting for a jersey when the terms of the sale were already discussed..."sorry i only have $40 on me".
That and people trying to trade fakes for my real jerseys

I was looking about six months ago for a car for my dad, and found it very discouraging; most of the sellers had multiple people interested in the car, and were not interested in taking the car to a mechanic (even if we paid for the checkup). In the end, we ended up buying a used car from a "reputable" dealer.
The one piece of advice I can give: if the price is way out of line with other similar cars, beware! We came across one guy selling a 2007 Toyota Matrix for a very good price; it turned out he was a mechanic who had bought a car from an auction (most likely written off), fixed it up and was trying to sell it. That incident was really the last straw for us, since I would have never picked that up, if it hadn't been for a friend of mine who noticed some inconsistencies and started asking more questions.
Good luck!

I sold my Jeep in the summer on Kijiji. From the seller perspective, I was a real dink in making sure that there was a money order or cash for the amount of the car, and the guy had to bring in his own plates and give me mine back before he drove away with the vehicle. If they wanted me to take it to a mechanic, i would have, but there was noway I was going to take it to some guy's house or back yard garage and leave my vehicle there. I would have wanted some assurance that the mechanic was legit and wasn't going to screw up my car for a cheaper sale.
If I were to be buying, I'd go to the AMA or Service Alberta website and print off one of the Bill of Sale forms and have it with me, so that I knew there were no hidden terms or statements. I'd also have the name and number of the mechanic handy and see about getting one close to the person's house. You will want a Carfax or similar search for sure, and ask about the history of the vehicle, how many owners, what dealership, where maintenance was done, etc. When filling out the bill of sale, ask to see the driver's licence and put down exactly how it is written in the licence.
