Since direct injection there has been a bunch of carbon build up issues as well. I'd want to see the new generations hit 60-80,000km without repeating that mess before I'd touch one. I luckily got in on pretty much the last of the fuel injected engines. I think I'll stick with my strategy of buying ~4 year old low mileage cars. There are usually a few fairly high mileage examples by that time to see how they hold up.

Have you test driven one? I did a couple weeks ago. I think it's a great looking vehicle and the options one can get aren't bad either. However I thought it was totally under powered. I merged onto Deerfoot with the accelerator planted and it was mediocre at best. Also I didn't think that the front seats were very comfortable and the back seat was garbage. You would be sore and uncomfortable sitting back there for any moderate length of time. You should take a look at the Rouge as well. It has a bigger engine, more interior room and more cargo room. Not the best looking vehicle though, but not ugly in my opinion.

Nobody has mention the RAV4, but I really like my 2011 V6 Sport. The V6 definitely makes a difference.

I think the Rav4 has grown into a fat pig. It's the same size as a 4Runner used to be.

^ The Rav is the longest, tallest and heaviest of that comparison...

That and the fact that all of those models also grew in size and weight from previous generations.

I always thought the 1st RAV4 generations were pretty nice and nimble (also a lot nicer looking imo), but they've slowly put on the bloat over the years. They are more or less now the size of an older gen 4Runner.
