i'll go against the grain here as I gotta hand it to the oilers as they could have easily come out last night and put up token resistance, but instead they took it right tot he ducks.
I would expect the ducks veterns to carry them in game 7 - but it is now the best of 1 and Edmonton has won in anahiem
The Ducks also have the stigma of losing game 7 at home 4 straight years. Oil gotta feel great going into Wednesday
I simply can't bring myself to be a fanatic. I can favor a team over others, but the day I allow emotions to control me or hate an out-group over something as benign and meaningless as millionaires playing sport, is the day that I step away from the game. My mind is not that childish and weak.
I have no ill-will towards any team in the league.
All of your post is fine, until this comment. It is not necessarily childish or weak to love something so much that you hate the idea of your bitter rival getting it before you do, especially on account of ineptitude and luck.

2006 - Ducks defeated the Flames in Game 7
2009 - Ducks lost to Detroit in Game 7
2013 - Leafs lost to Boston in Game 7 (epic third period collapse)
True, but Carlyle's record is still world's better than Boudreau's, and unlike his perpetual inability to win Game 7 on home ice, Carlyle's two mis-steps were on the road.
...Besides, the Oilers haven't won a Game 7 since the nineties.

Aren't you cheering for Edmonton because they are a Canadian team here? If so That is a far worse in group / out group basis than a rivalry.

*shrug* But it's fun to hate the Oilers and Canucks...

I get how the majority of posters hate the Oilers with a passion. However, it seems to me that the degree of hatred is equated to how good a fan you are of the Flames.
Just because I don't share that hatred, IMO doesn't diminish my love for the Flames. I have been a STH for 23 years which obviously takes me back to the Young Guns era, when our financial input helped keep the Flames here in Calgary.
Besides, apart from the past year, there really hasn't been a strong rivalry with the Oilers, and what strong dislike, I had for them at one time, has been significantly diminished. Probably it's my dislike for the Ducks that is also coming into play.

Au contraire. I think hatred of the Oilers is directly proportional to the amount of contact one has with smug, arrogant, insufferable Oilers fans (which, in my experience, is 95% of them).

All good and valid points above - The only thing I will add is that there seems to be this strong narrative that Canadians should root for any and all Canadian teams that are still alive in these playoffs. I have nothing against the Sens, in fact I hope they prevail in their series against the Rangers. However, the same doesn't apply for the Oilers. I have a strong dislike for both the Oilers and Ducks and I hope the Preds destroy whichever team wins game 7.

Can we move past this please? Go cheer for them if you want an stop trying to justify it. I for one will never, ever cheer for them but for me it stems from a lifelong hatred due to growing up in the 80's and having to put up with the arrogance of those fans and that city. As insufferable as those fans are today it pales compared to the 80's and early 90's. None of you younger fans will ever understand if you never lived through it. If you want to cheer for a team who's fan base hates the Flames and took enjoyment in their first round loss against the Ducks then have at it but stop trying to justify it because nothing you say will change the way most Flames fans feel about the Oilers and their fans. We hate them like they hate us.

Yah, there's no need to justify if you want to cheer for the Oilers. If that's how you feel, that's how you feel.
But me personally, I'd rather quit watching hockey altogether than cheer for the Oilers or Canucks. Just how I feel. I get pretty emotionally involved in the playoffs if either team is still in it with the pure hatred for each, and hoping they get embarrassed and knocked out by what whatever team they're playing against. And that's not ever going to change.
