A 2nd alone seems pretty low considering Doug Murray garnered 2 of them and he's having a down season as well (and a UFA).
This is why I would try and get more for Kipper. He's been lousy here, but there is good reason to believe he will improve once he gets behind a better D, and they should have to pay for what they are getting.

Nope sorry Kipper has never ever been lousy here how dare you

The fact that Kipper has to have a very structured defensive system in front of him to play well has me questioning his value. How good of a goalie are you if you have to have a stellar defensive system in front of you to shine?
It be one thing if his numbers were only bad in front this current version of the Flames, but he also struggled during Keenan era where we had some decent clubs that weren't very structured defensively. He's certainly benefited from some very defensive systems as a member of this team.

The way he's playing and the way things are going for this team, I just think he needs to move on. Either accept a trade or retire. The guy hasn't been playing great and god knows this team hasn't played great. I just think it's more of a distraction for the team. I hope this all gets sorted out soon and I openly wouldn't be upset if he didn't play another game for the Flames.

Typical eastern Canadian opinion, if Kipper does not want to go that is fine by me, playing for the Leafs = fail... Keep Kipper away from that gross and over hyped franchise... send him to Pittsburgh or Chicago, anywhere but Toronto... Send Stajan back there, we need a total Leaf exorcism ...

Vokoun hasn't let in a goal in 140 minutes of backup duty with the Pens after today's second straight shutout.

See, Kipper really isn't helping the Flames.... at all. If he's traded, I don't care what team he goes to as long as they're the highest bidder. I hate the leafs more than most people on here, I can guarntee that. I think he'd be a good fit on that team (mostly because all I hear around here is leafs talk/news and a vet goalie is exactly what they could use). I want what's best for the Calgary Flames, I don't care if it means sending Kipper to the islanders or the panthers. Stajan has been one of, if not the best player on the Flames this year, I don't see him going to the leafs but I could see him going to either the ducks, devils or even the Sens.
Having Kipper on this team just because of what he's done in the past or because he is who he is just doesn't make sense. If the team can benefit from trading ANY PLAYER on this team, they should do it.

It's Kipper's right, under his NMC, to stay until his contract expires. However, if his play doesn't improve or even worsens, I believe he can expect to gradually become our backup goalie.
Sutter's tendency to hand out NMC's is coming home to haunt us.

Kiprusoff's NMC has expired.
But it's still his right to retire whenever he wants.

I think we really need to examine just how deflating it is to play for this team right now. There's nothing wrong with Kipper's reflexes, he's as quick and flexible as he ever was.
At the current moment, this is a team without hope. What reason does he have to mentally invest in any of these games?
Look at Iggy's smile in Pittsburgh today. He wasn't a miserable person when he was here, and an environment that isn't so dour all the time is going to bring out the best in Kipper.
And he doesn't need a strong defensive structure, he just needs it to be present. Like every goalie in the league.
2nd rounder + decent Colborne level prospect, or a 1st straight up. A capable GM gets that return.

On the basis of his play only a magician could get a first. Not sure he's even worth a second

It's not like he's getting much help at all. Do you expect him to steal all the games? He's had rough games this year to be sure but so would any other starting goaltender with this mess in front of him. The problem is not goaltending on this team, it's damn near everything else. Kipper is a proven playoff performer and doesn't break under pressure like Luongo, Fleury or Bryzgalov to name a few. He's worth the 2nd if not more to a playoff bound team.
I'm just thankful the guy didn't demand a trade years ago, the team in front of him is a farce.

No, no he's not. He's barely worth anything. He has some of the worst stats in the entire NHL, has another year at a big cap hit, is refusing to report, has been regressing for a long time, and might retire at the end of this season.
Name one playoff team that would want to pay over 5m for a goalie who may not report, who also has the worst stats out of any starting goalie in the NHL
Kipper wouldn't even be claimed off waivers, let alone worth "more than a 2nd"

I love Kipper, but he has been bad this year. He hasn't even been an average NHL starter this year, let alone the game stealing Kipper of old. He might rebound next year, but he is so far from the player he was last year I'm not sure it's possible. I can't imagine what playoff bound team would want him. If the Leafs will give us a second, I say take it.

because stats mean everything. He's playing in front of one of the worst teams in the NHL, a decent defence and new team would do him wonders.
has another year at a big cap hit,if he retires it won't matter, if not there are plenty of teams that need that low actual dollar figure with high cap hit
is refusing to report, refusing to report? Nice try Kypreos, go sell crazy somewhere else
has been regressing for a long time, he may be regressing but he's regressing from the level of one of the best goalies in the entire world, that still ain't bad
and might retire at the end of this season. . Again if he does, he's a rental for the playoffs, if not refer to the first sentence

The only team who would want a rental goalie is a playoff team. And every single playoff team has a better goalie than Kipper, expect for maybe Toronto. That is the only team in the NHL who might give up an asset for Kipper. And with Luongo/Miller on the market, why would they want the worst starter in the NHL, who may not even play leaving them stuck with his cap?
Kipper would very easily clear waivers. Nobody would take him.
