That's still too rich IMO to "dump" Huberdeaus contract.

It sounds crazy but I can fully see 20th OA and Wright for Hanifin with a small/medium add from the Flames side.

Good grief that is bad

I'm not sure I would do that trade, because I am super high on Kylington, but it's honestly not bad.
We get out of the Huberdeau contract before it starts and that would be massive. Even if he rebounds somewhat in the next year or two, it is going to be a massive boat anchor very soon and buying it out would be very tough.
Phillips is UFA, that part is meaningless.
So we give up Kylington to get out of Hubby contract, move up four spots in a very good draft, and get a third.
It's pretty fair value, IMO.

That doesn't sound like a bad deal from the Flames perspective IMO.

I think that Wright figures it out. If Seattle isn't sold on him as a 2c to Bernier, I would take Wright and a 2nd.

If Huberdeau has another 60-70 point year there will be no team that will take his contract. I do not expect them to trade him but I think there is a pretty good chance he’ll have another mediocre season. The Flames top six will be worse.
Philip’s rights are worthless and Kylington is year out from being an UFA and might get a second right now but that might be a stretch after his year off.

Was going to say the same.
Hanifin is a steady #2 or #3
Not terrible value given the above. Not sure if people are expecting a #1 D type package but its worth remembering he's also expiring.
A 1st and a young player/picks seems about right.

If Edwards could get rid of $80M+ owed to Huby, I’m sure he could be sold on some sort of rebuild.
Perhaps there’s a scenario he stomachs a rebuild by reducing payroll to absorb some of the lost playoff revenue.

Seattle is an interesting team and after seeing Vegas be aggressive in their build to win a cup it will be interesting to see what direction they take. The Kraken were a win away from the conference finals and have a lot of flexibility to add to their roster if need be. With Francis as their GM I could definitely see a situation where they would be heavily involved in trying to acquire Lindholm and/or Hanifin.

Yeah, they could still get value for Weegar, so it’d really just be riding out Coleman, Kadri, and Markstrom. I think there is about a 1% chance of it happening though lol

Barring a massive regression, Coleman is a perfect guy for a rebuilding team to overpay on. Character guy, brings it every night, good fancy stats. He can stay.
WRT Markstrom, maybe Treliving still believes in him? Toronto is going to need to do something in net...
A man can dream.

Even if the Flames wanted to tear it down and rebuild I can't see Huberdeau waiving for any team that can afford to take on his salary. I seriously doubt he's going to waive to go play in a community centre with curtains separating the locker room in Arizona.
I guess maybe Seattle but not sure they'd want to take on that contract, it's pretty bad.

If the Flames want to rebuild I could see him waiving for somewhere else if they wanted him. It’s not like he has established ties here and all he’ll hear about is how much he sucks if he doesn’t bounce back. If I was a player id much rather ride out my ####ty contract where people care less.

More like Treliving signing that contract on behalf of the Flames. Huby rather enjoyed signing that contract, he wouldn't have touched that money even as a UFA

If the cost of Monahan's salary dump was a 1st, dumping 10.5x8 of Huby would be astronomical.

Unless the picture is visual of what the return is going to be and not about contract negotiations.
