Oh, pardon me then. What's with all the snark? It sounds like Luongo is sleeping with your wife.
Your rant about the Luuu chant is a little over the top, but even so, I see absolutely no problem with making a booing sound as part of a player's name. If you're old enough (I have no idea how old you are) you might remember a certain player back in the 1980's named Hakan Loob. I seem to remember a chant of "Loooooob" going up around the dome whenever he would get a decent scoring chance, let alone a goal. That sounds eerily like a booing sound, don't ya think? So if it was ok back then, and if we ignore your irrational hatred of Luongo for a second, don't you think it's just fine to make a little atmosphere at the Dome other than a good 'ol Go Flames Go chant?
I mean for one, it helps the players know that the fans are paying attention and are supporting them. Secondly, it creates a unique experience for fans, which is what you want in a home building. All of this goes into the experience: the chants, the music, the lights, the interstitial programming, the intermission segments, the aesthetics of the arena, etc. etc. etc. I guess I'm not sure why people don't want more things to do with their team that make it unique. And before you say it, I know that Moose would sound a lot like Luuu, but so what.
I say do more things at the game. Make a choo choo sound after a Ferland hit. Bawk like a chicken after a scrum. I don't care, what it is, just do something. It's one thing that I wish was better at the Flames rink.
Oh and BTW, I have no idea what I said to you way back when, but it's kinda silly to hold a grudge over it, no? It couldn't have been that bad.

Wonder how Elliott really feels about the Flames not having any intentions signing him to a contract extension this season. Or perhaps he is fine with that perhaps they have an agreement in place that if the Flames move a Wideman type contract Elloitt gets an extension. I wonder could Smid come off the cap if he retired?
Not sure how that works under the CBA.

Because Elliott's contract extension would kick in for a 2017-2018 season, contracts like Wideman and Smid which expire after 2016-2017 are irrelevant to the cap situation for an Elliott contract extension.
Smid is also very unlikely to retire if he is unable to play. If he retires he gives up the $4 million owed to him this season. If anything he ends up on LTIR for the whole year if it is decided he can't play.
The most likely reason as to why the Flames have no intentions about signing Elliott to a contract extension right now is they want to keep their options for goaltender open.
Possible reasons:
1. They aren't 100% completely sold on whether Elliott can/or is the solution in net long term. They want to see what he can do this season.
2. They think there might be a better goaltender available via trade or free agency at some point this season (e.g. Bishop).
3. They want to see where Gillies is in his progress after a write off season due to injury. Committing to goaltenders with term might block Gillies' (or another goaltending prospect's) ascension to the NHL and create another 3 headed monster down the line.
4. A combination of all of the above.

I would argue that more than all of those things - the actual cap space needs to be there. Between Sam Bennett, Jokipakka, Elliott, and Ferland, we don't have a sense of what kind of cap flexibility we should expect to have. Those are four big contract years and I imagine Chad Johnson will be extended for the sole reason that we need a goalie to expose to expansion (unless Schneider's or Rittich's exemptions can be waived?)

Meh. Flames are likely paying $5-$6 million+ for a starting goaltender moving forward. I am pretty sure Treliving and company know that.

It could also be to Eliott's benefit to wait. Right now he's probably a 5 million/year guy. If he puts up the same numbers as last year but starts 60 games and takes us to the second round or further, suddenly he's a 6 to 7 million dollar player.

You a Canucks fan? Not even close 7uongo was and will always be great.
Luongo seems like a good natured guy but he still played for the Canucks when I hated them more than any team in sports.
As for the chants I used to rip Canuck fan friends of mine who embraced the Luuu chant. I would be a huge hypocrite to adopt the same for Elliott. I have no problem calling him Moose but I hope the Dome steers clear from the boo sound when he stops a puck

I agree with Sureloss I think signing Elliott to a contract would be a mistake right now. Go into the deadline or even the summer with maximum flexibility.
As mentioned earlier the Pens either buyout or trade Fleury or risk losing Murray. His NMC forces them to protect him. Perhaps the Flames are able to pull off a trade there and then only be tied to MAF for 2 years which gives Gilies time to prove if he is the real deal. Perhaps Bishop remains an option?
Keep the flexibility open and if Elliott is still one of the best goalies come mid season then look to sign him but don't do it now when he has never played a game for the team

I'm sure Vancouver fans are making a special time to get offended by you calling the goalie for the Florida Panthers "7uongo."
I don't think we're so desperate that we need to use old outdated jokes to grind on Nuck fans. There is a pretty big pool to draw from lately.
"7uongo" is stupid. So is not-liking "Ooooooo" type reactions if it's just because the Canucks did it. Vancouver is just so pathetic now, like beating an old dog.

Most of my posts probably have some form of snark in them. I have been against 7uongo for almost as long as I've watched him. I wouldn't call my dislike of him irrational. I think you'd be hard pressed to find many Flames fans who are/were fans of him. Search his name here with diving, flopping, or whining, and you'll likely get a number of results. He's right up there with burrows, Kesler, and bieksa. The 7uongo term has been a CP staple for at least 7-8 years. I watched way too many games in Vancouver and heard the chant, and I'd rather not hear it in Calgary. I'd also hope Calgary wouldn't do a white towel, or a red man. That's just my personal preference. If Calgary did a looooob every time he touched the puck, that would also be annoying. Score a goal? Sure. Great play. Sure? Pass the puck? Nope. And yes, I'm too young to have known the Loob days.
I wish the Flames had some more chants, but I can't get behind the uuuuuu ones. I think it's odd to boo Tom Adriano one second and then Moooose Elliott the next. I am glad they cheer for their team, and not against the other team. I hate when the canucks have their "Flames/oilers/etc suck" chant to the tune of if you're happy and you know it, or Addams family theme, or she'll be coming round the mountain.
I don't have a grudge against you. I don't dislike you. I disliked two comments in this thread from you, and discussed it here. Nothing more; nothing less.
