Since when is having a few beers mean you are drunk and that you don't enjoy the outdoors?

Are you the person who holds the only judgement on who is "actually enjoying the outdoors"?

This discussion could go on and on. But I was actually responding to JayP who said he didn't know what else to do after dark but drink around the camp fire. I would assume that means he would eventually get drunk.

I am not the keeper of all the judgements. I was giving my opinion. I am not judging. It may appear that I am judging. But I am not. To each his own.

Fair enough

It is just a shame that some fools wreck it for everybody.

If you really liked your home, you wouldn't drink there either.

Lol. Cash cow, eh? Is it really so hard to believe that the big, bad government is merely appeasing people who like to camp, but dislike being disturbed by groups of drunken idiots cranking music and swearing all night? They've basically turned national parks into family friendly areas. If you want to drink, go somewhere else (like I will be doing).

I can't believe anyone is upset by this. If anything, it helps reduce the chance that you get one of those anal geeks as a neighbour when camping at a non-dry campground.

I wonder how much the aftermath of these May Long weekend camping binges that we see on the highways come Monday is related to this decision. Probably none... Most likely just an additional benefit if there is no carnage on the hwy. Another "cash cow" obviously.

Yeah, I'm in the party crowd, but I've got no problem with some of the campgrounds being dry. It just sucks that Pigeon and Miquelon (which is terrible now) are the two closest lakes to me, and they're both dry.

Just another example of the few causing restrictions on the many. Welcome to life.

If you cant enjoy camping without the booze, maybe you should re-evaluate your reasons for going in the first place.

How about "if you can't enjoy camping with out booze, camp where you're allowed to have some".

Not everyone gets blasted when they camp (myself notwithstanding), but alot of people like to have a couple of beers. No need to get condescending.

Why are you equating having a few drinks to getting "blasted"? The MAJORITY of cmapers do NOT cause problems, it is a small few that do, yet the government is going to BAN the consumption of alcohol instead of dealing with the idiots.

It is quite simple, if someone breaks the law by causing a disturbance, they either get kicked out of the campground or get arrested. If the authorities acutally cracked down on this behaviour it would stop pretty fast.

I think banning alcohol consumption at these camp grounds does nothing but push the problem to other camp grounds. The government needs to deal with the problem no different than dealing with your neigbour who is having a bunch of drinks over in the back yard around a camp fire. There really is NO difference.

What the hell? So because of a bunch of losers who can't clean up after themselves or handle liquor responsibly, the gov't of AB has to step in and ban liquor in provincial parks on the biggest weekend for camping? How is this "enjoyable for everyone"? Sounds like just enjoyable for mormons and people with small kids. Hell, even people with small kids can enjoy a beer on a hot afternoon in the woods.

This seems so over the top. First no tailgating, now this- what next? No drinking on outdoor patios?

Anyways if this is fata sorry but I searched a few times and nothing came up. What are your thoughts?
Good.

That's step one.

Now, to make the world a perfect camping place, the next thing to do is ban boom boxes and televisions.

My 2 cents:

An over-reaction to places that have become notoriously bad (Ie Maclean Creek / Wipress)

For those complaining about the drinking and camping I understand the concern, but the people going out on May Long weekend not to drink need to maybe pick a better weekend. As long as I have been alive Canadians have gone camping this weekend..and they will drink.

I went camping this weekend with friends instead...didn't see another soul...and enjoyed a few beverages in peace...

Even if you went to a so called "dry" campground, I'm sure you can just bring whatever booze you want and enjoy it in a calm fashion.
I would....
Just don't draw attention to yourself is all.

What are they gonna do search you?
