Why does Telus make it so hard to cancel an account?
I used to have a family plan with my brother; his name was used as the account holder & I was a secondary.
He got rid of his side of the account, and transferred the rest of the contract to another person. When this transfer took place, all they did was move the contract over to another account. Thus he is still on my account as the main person, and I am still a secondary.
His name shouldn't be on there because he has nothing to do with the account, and we also paid to have the transfer done.
I went to cancel my account & they said I can't, only my brother can.
So I have my brother call, only to apparently tell him that they can't find any record of an account in his name...

This sounds like a mobility issue, and I can't help much with Mobility, just home phone tv and internet

At the interest rates Telus charges ( I can only assume they have to give me the same rate when they owe me money), over two years, that 12 dollars is now about $20 that they owe me.
At the interest rate that I personally charge (50% per month), they now owe me approximately $200,000.
I'll settle for splitting the difference.

How long ago did you cancel?

I'm not comfortable answering that question. I'm not divulging company secrets nor do I intend on doing so, but I also don't want my personal communications being a work issue.

Any way to turn off the routing ability of the 2Wire and use it purely as a modem?
My set up had my little DLink near the POTS with a long network cable to my WRT54G (with Tomato firmware) in another room.
Now with the 2Wire wanting to do everything I would need to alter all my cabling (or run a long wire from the pots splitter, which is bad mmmm 'kay)
And my experience with Telus has generally been decent. Their computer tech support seems like about a 50/50 shot of getting anyone decent. The bad ones are REALLY bad (and frustrating). The good ones I wish I could get a direct line.

Yes, you can use our modem just as a router, or, just a modem. There should be a button in your options, if you cant figure it out call 310 tech they will walk you thru it

Here's my story of jilted love turned to bitter betrayal about Telus.
Once upon a time we were in love, beautiful Telus offered 3 months free, and a really low rate. I waited for beautiful Telus for 4 weeks to setup my internet and television, (of course needing access to the internet so that I could successfully participate in my SOMEWHAT IMPORTANT UNIVERSITY CAREER), but beautiful Telus never came.....ever. I began to lose faith in my beautiful Telus, with it's low rates and months of free service. Finally after several agonizing phone calls lasting several hours each that bounced me to about 4-5 operators before finally ending up with their regional service manager, Telus and I broke up for good.
Naturally being on the rebound, and looking for a good strong provider, I ran into dark and handsome Shaw. Shaw told me that he could be "right over the next day to fix my problems" which sent me reeling....could it really be? is it too good to be true? Sure enough...it wasn't! Shaw came over and set everything up the next day. Less than 15 hours after calling them, I had my service up and running.
The moral of the story kids: Telus has terrible customer service, are extremely inefficient, and have lost a customer for life by screwing me around for 4 weeks when I really needed my internet as a student at the UofC. If you are ever looking for a excellent provider go with Shaw, the customer service is excellent, and I've never had any problems with them. Thank you Telus for making my decisions oh-so-much easier!

^Is the poor service described above the result of Telus using unionized workers?

Guys, let's try to keep this thread on topic; there is no need to keep piling on with bad Telus customer service experiences; otherwise this thread will become huge and out of control.
TheU has been kind enough to offer some insight into the inner workings of Telus, and answer some technical questions that we haven't been able to get from normal channels. (Which ironically enough is the basis of some of the customer service complaints.)

I've had about 50/50 on customer service with Telus.
In the past few years I've only had 1 really terrible tech, and a couple really good ones. A couple others were decidedly meh. Not bad but not helpful.
My most recent experience - really good. Listened to me, looked up everything on line, then put me on hold while she took care of things, only coming back on line to ask a few questions and make sure I know what was going on. Pretty painless for me.

no i would suggest telus' strong point is there workers. the problem that the company has had before is bad choices being made up top. also, the new ordering processing system, desktop 1, is very badly programmed. it often crashes, runs very slow, etc. its a web based ordering system that we run on the old internet explorer, if you can believe
as far as difficulty in getting installers out fast, that's been an issue for a while. we have so many new TTV people signing up, i dont think we were prepared and hired enough installers

telus, the only company I will not deal with under any circumstance, even if they offer free life time service. Not just me, most of family and friends have boycotted telus for life too, congratulations telus.

It seems like about half the time I go to the Telus store I have to come back the following day because the "system is down". Seems to happen frequently. Other than that I have had great service, especially with Platinum Perks.

Had an idea!
|
So, with the new network, is there any chance that Telus offer residential high speed in rural areas?
One of the installers for Platinum Communications said today that they expect that Telus will. Said that Telus will offer better speed, but a limit on how much bandwidth per month you can use. Also said for the people who don't download much, Telus will have a huge advantage because of the high speed network they ALREADY have setup around the province to offer high speed internet to rural residents.

OK, I was a little sarcastic asking for who you were. But before I sent you my account number or any other personal information, it would sure make me feel better to know what your role at Telus is.
At least when Firefly used to help us out on the Mobility side, she gave us an idea of what she did for them.
Maybe its just me.

VDSL does increase the odds of TELUS getting internet to rural areas, especially when used with a stinger. But really theres no way I could say for sure... TELUS covers such a huge mass of area saying which area would and which area wouldn't be covered is a guessing game

I certainly understand, and, if it makes you feel better you could always just tell me your situation and I can tell you how best to get it resolved

I currently subscribe to Bell TV.
In the future, if I switch to Telus Satellite TV, can I use the 9242 receivers that I already own?

There's no real reason to switch, it's the same equipment, same channels, same pricing, as per the agreement with Bell. Infact if you call TELUS right now as a Bell client, if you ask for Telus Satellite they will tell you to call Bell 1st
