She matter of factly told me that "Her husband wouldn't approve"
Me - "You mean your ex-husband right?"
Her - "nope"
Me - "Your husband that your seperated from right?"
her - "Nope"
Me - "Get out"
Now let me put this into perspective. I'm not a prude, or a straight laced guy or anything. But I've never cheated, I believe that marriage is some kind of sacred thing, and I didn't want to get shot in the face by some jealousy induced enraged husband.
Then there was another blind date where I went out with a girl for almost a year when I was about 26. She was cute, sorta smart, she was a huge asset on a softball team, but she never had a job or went to school where I saw her. She basically sat at home and probably smoked dope. So I took her out one night and after we ordered drinks, the conversation turned to fall plans.
She told me proudly that she was going back to school. Here I was thinking college or university and asked her what she was taking.
Math 10, Social 10, English 10.
Holy Crap I'm going to jail.
After that. No more blind dates.
They're only good for hilarity.

But the same happened to me. Friend that I really haven't talked to since high school, writes on my wall, friend she wants me to meet, would I add her? I click the link, and it's a phishing site. So it never hurts to be overly suspicious and cautious. Thankfully, firefox blocked it.

Ya, rude is one word you could use. I would always pick a out in the open meeting spot....like the windmill at Eau Claire, knowing it was a safe spot for her to meet me. I would stand there with a flower for about half an hour before pulling the pin.
For every date that stood me up, I knew I was one date closer to meeting somebody. You just gotta know it's not your fault you got stood up, and everything will be fine.

Waiter: Got stood up, huh?
Ross: Yeah, it's no big deal. It's just a blind date.
Waiter: Are you worried your date came, saw you, and left?
Ross: No!

Thanks for the stories guys. I was kind of leaning towards it being a bad idea because I'm pretty quiet if I don't know someone very well so it could end up being an incredibly painful experience for all involved.

I like the family guy episode when Pete tries to set up Chris on a blind date
Peter - "I don't understand why she's late, she sent a message and everything"
Stewie walks into the restaurant wearing a wig and a dress. He takes one look at the table containing Peter and Chris
Stewie - "Woow"
Stewie exits stage left.

I've come to the decision that I get bored easily in relationships (hence why my idol is Warren Beatty), and blind dates just add some spontaneous fun at random times. It doesn't have to lead anywhere, and it doesn't even have to transpire into sex, it's just fun to meet new people - and that includes both having a good time and belittling the pants off each other in public.
Blind dates are good to occupy time!

Here is a strange dating story. Swedish woman claims to be lover with the Berlin Wall:
http://lifewise.canoe.ca/Living/2008/06/01/5962646.html
The 54-year-old eccentric woman from Liden, in northern Sweden, claims — and is well known in her community — for having a long-distance relationship with the Berlin Wall.

In my experience, it's better to keep the first few dates short anyway. Go for a beer/coffee somewhere and keep it to 30 minutes or less. Give the other person a small idea of what you are like, and leave them wanting to know more. It works the other way too, a short date gives you enough time to figure out if you are interested to know more, without having awkward silences that plague longer dates. I go into a date with my phone alarm set to ring around the 30 minute mark, I take the 'call' and tell them I have to get going.

Well, it's why I have to resort to looking for men to hook up with on CP.

I never went on blind dates, no funny stories to tell there but some good ones in this thread. I think that if I was not married I'd probably be on a site like eHarmony ... I always hated the dating process - the real initial stuff actually. That stuff sucked.

There must be some Sex and the City message board somewhere where I could go looking for women then, right?

Hey, next time I'm in Calgary I'll let you buy me a drink. You've never partied until you've partied with the MQS himself. Best . . . blind . . . date . . . ever. In fact if you get me so drunk I black out I'll be blind and a blast
