Well, the traditional Vietnamese sub is lard (it's definitely not butter), mystery meat (actually I think it's some type of pork), pickled carrots, cucumber, peppers and cilantro. Back in the day, when you ordered a vietnamese sub, there was only that one choice. Now vietnamese sub places have expanded on the choice of toppings to allow consumer choice and the more things they add to it, the farther it gets away from what I would define as a Vietnamese sub. Nothing beats the original still, IMO.

As for what I'm craving? A nice traditional Sichuan hot pot. They just don't make it the same here.

At the place I once worked at, the owner's wife was asian (and yes, quite attractive). She used to show up with viet subs every so often. My co-worker one day asked her to keep the carrots off next time. She retorted something to the effect of 'you get what you get'.

Until I read your post, I always thought she meant that he'd better not complain about free lunch and that she wasn't taking orders like a waitress. Now, with your post in mind, I think that she probably also meant that 'you get what you get'.

I noticed this on my last trip to van. They have lots of japanese restaurants and few vietnamese ones, whereas in calgary its almost the opposite.

Warm smoked meat sandwich on toasted bread with extra melty mozza cheese and LOTS of dijon. Maybe even some au jus to dip it in for extra heart attackiness.

that stuff is delicious
I haven't seen that stuff for a couple years now - I used to get it occasionally, but the problem was it was very messy. I actually like the "Smartfood" stuff (does anyone actually believe it's "smart", as in healthy?), which just has white cheddar somehow chemically bonded to the popcorn, probably using advanced carcinogen technology.

Hmm, I think I'll go down and buy a bag right now. Beer, cheezy popcorn, and a Flames game on TV - I might as well off myself now as it won't get any better than that!

There's aren't as good as the ones from Chinatown and they charge more. It pains me to have to pay more for subpar food. Although I haven't had one in a while so maybe they've gotten better.

I would agree. The one across from the HH building blows the bake chef out of the water.

I wanted a Spicy Baconator (thanks to the obnoxious "I think the Spicy Baconator deserves a raise!" commercial - mention of this maybe required in the appropriate thread). So I got one. Now I feel drunk. Is that a good feeling to have from eating bacon and jalapenos?

Just out of curiosity, I heard that the craving actually never goes away. Is that true?

And I'm also currently craving some mint Aero. Woah, there's a such thing as a mint aero egg?
