Yeah.... I agree. He'll get an extended shot from management, which means no waivers, but he'll have to show he belongs.... I'm guessing if he can't make a case by January, and there hasn't been a trade made yet to move someone else out to make room, he'll be put on waivers for other guys chomping at the bit down in the A.

So, let's say the Flames decide they need one more vet back on D and sign Barrie, who from the sounds of it, wouldn't even be a bad option. Who do the Flames risk on waivers?

I don't think those have gone as badly as you think.

Losing Gaudreau with hindsight was probably good for CGY, based on his play in Columbus. Gaudreau like a lot of our team, was alternating between great and mediocre seasons. I think it would've been a similar situation to Huberdeau if Gaudreau was getting paid $10.5M, and putting up 60-75P.

As far as the Tkachuk trade, that was a pretty good return. I don't see anyone getting a better return. If the Flames traded Huberdeau instead of extending him that summer it would've been a huge return as well.

The Kadri signing was also good, the problem was that we didn't have the cap space.

That leads to the Monahan trade, and this one was absolutely terrible for the franchise and an over reaction.

I don't see Conroy handling Daryl better because he was brought in by ownership, and was extra tough after winning the Adams.

If anything, I think Conroy would've managed to keep the Flames as a wildcard team for a few more years, delaying a necessary rebuild as a result.

I think it’s well known and Conroy has stated that he would have signed Johnny in his 1 bad year as Conroy vouched for circumstances and still paid him, but Tre and management said he needed to prove himself. I even believe Guy said that as well. So I do believe things would have been different. I just don’t know if the results would have changed, with or without Johnny we still would have needed younger guys. Tkachuk may have still moved on and we now know Lindy is boosted by those around him. Hopefully the prospects bring a bright future for us.

I don't see either Grushnikov, or Brzustewicz making the team out of camp.

I think that the Flames are going to move 2-4 out of Andersson, Miromanov, Bahl, Bean, Pachal, and Solovyov before the start of the 25-26 season. This would open up a few spots for next year on D for the likes of Kuznetsov, Grushnikov, Poirier, Parekh, and Brzustewicz.

Until then the D is pretty set:
Bahl - Andersson
Weegar - Miromanov
Bean - Pachal/Solovyov/Barrie
Pachal/Solovyov/Barrie

I'm almost hoping for a couple of minor injuries, so that some of the prospects get more NHL experience.

Coronato is still waiver exempt. It feels like an almost certainty that he starts the season with the Wranglers because of that...unless the Flames try their luck and put Pelletier on waivers.

The young defencemen have looked good but I'm pumping the brakes as they are not facing heavy forechecking in the early games of the pre-season. They are afforded a lot of time and space in these first few games they won't have once the regular season begins.

I still see a lot of long-term potential in them but their current readiness to step into the NHL lineup to start the season is still in question IMO.
