The goalie market is hard to guess as few established vets are traded. The last one I can think of is Bishop who was younger and had no trade protections.

(doubtful the team would ever proceed with Vlader and Wolf, but interesting anyways)
Zero chance Markstrom would be on the market. He has a NMC, this team is a contender, he has many close friends on the team and is a leader in the room.

I am sure they could get a top prospect+1st+ more from Toronto if they took Murray back but I don’t see any way the Flames would even contemplate that move.

This signing ensures we have a solid tandem moving forward and lets the team allow Wolf to cook a little longer in the minors. If Vladar and/or Wolf force their hand in the next 3 years after this one then I can see them doing something with Marky but not anytime soon

Gives lots of time for Wolf to continue to develop. He's not a bust or write off because we have two established NHL goalies. Wolf's an RFA to start 24-25, should be able to re-sign him them and see if he forces the issue and makes the big club make room for him. For now, just keep getting it done for the Wranglers.

I think the point of this is to have a solid backup/1B who can play 30 games well, wins his fair share, and keeps the starter fresh for a long playoff run. Trading Markstrom makes the team worse now, and this is definitely "win now" mode.

I really like this signing.

I might be in the minority that thinks he could easily be the Flames long term goalie. I like Wolf a lot and think he has a a lot of potential but we have seen several younger goalies that were deemed the future just flame out. Vladar is having proven success and is still quite young.

Return for Vladar. If he can elevate his game and keep improving maybe we could trade Markstrom. Run with Vladar and Wolf in a year or two.

Not too long ago we struggled to find consistent goaltending following Kipper’s retirement. Now we have two solid goalies on the big club and a promising goalie down in the A. Feels good to not have to worry about the net for a while

don't sleep on Arseni Sergeev as a long-term project either. Was fantastic in the USHL last season and judging from his first games, his transition to college might be a smooth one. Our goaltending situation is just great at every level right now ... feels great.

Good signing and a bit surprising since Dan Vladar is still under contract.
It shows the Flames value their players even if they could potentially be traded, maybe they’re getting calls about him and showing their cards by giving Vladar a nice early extension.

Tremendous asset management by Treliving. This is exactly how to protect the present and the future. Very well done.

Vladar seems like a really great guy as well which is great in the room.

Great extension by Treliving. He just keeps working. Happy to see that Vladar is locked in for 2 more years.

Now we just need to get Stone an extension and we are good.

Looch, Lewis, Ritchie, Stone, and Mackey are the only players on the roster now who aren't signed beyond this season.

Yeah, I don’t think Vladar or Wolf are up for grabs right now. There is basically no one behind Wolf that looks decent

I think getting him signed is great, and I am a big fan - he looks better than last year so far, though it is obviously very early. And I can see wanting to get it done early, to A) get it out of the way, and B) before he plays a bunch of games and shows that he is ready to be a starter.

I just think that they probably could have gotten him to sign at $1.5M just as easily.

10th, 11th and 12th forwards, and the 7th and 8th defensemen (counting Kylington). THAT is how you run a team!

Mr Treliving is solid gold!

It’s only a two-year deal. Wolf isn’t NHL-ready at the moment. This gives him as much time as he needs.

If Wolf suddenly starts looking like a superstar in the AHL, the Flames could easily move Vladar for a solid return with that contract and bring Wolf up.

He already was a superstar in the AHL. Not much left to prove imo.
