No chance in hell the Flames are tearing it down even if Johnny walks. I am a believer they will keep Johnny and Chucky and fill some holes with guys like Mackey, Valimaki, Pelletier and other guys who can be brought in for the minimum
Flames are a relatively young team with prospects in the minors. If you can afford it why would you not keep them together.

Those guys RARELY get moved.

If you think we are out to lunch, again, point to where a team has given up that kind of haul of young players.
Correct. Young players with elite skills and years of control are valued very heavily in the NHL. Look at what Eichel was traded for.

You can't simply look at Newhook's and Byram's points when neither get PP time behind an elite top 6 and top 2 dmen

Why would they trade such a premium asset for what amounts to a 1yr rental and/or UFA signing rights? Instead they could just go big in UFA knowing they will probably also have 3 yrs of a very good player on ELC...
This is silly, Tkachuk is a 100 pt forward, pretty rare any top 5 picks turn into that. The have a window also before Hughes gets paid.

EDIT: My apologies he signed an 8yr/$64MM

Wow, some really up tight grouchy people in here.

Read what the thread is about. It's not what you think SHOULD happen, it's not what you WANT to happen, it's not even what MIGHT happen. It's just a fun waste of time exercise to pass the time.

There's no need to get all defensive, either have fun with it or just don't bother.

Girard was a clear #3 on COL this year playing over 21 mins (~3mins more than the #4 in both reg season and playoffs). And he only just turned 24 a few weeks ago.

100pts is a nice but arbitrary distinction. It's also pretty rare that you have so many question marks about such a player that you're not 100% sure about locking them up longer term and contemplate trading them...

2OA forwards since 1990:
Spoiler!

IMO Tkachuk slots right in the middle of those 20. But the key thing is that his best 'value' years are almost certainly behind him - which isn't to say he may not still play 3-6 more of his very best years, but it's gonna cost 8 figures.

If Tkachuk was signed for 5 more years at say $8M then the value would make sense.
