The amount of wear and tear it saves the defensemen cannot be overstated.

I don't know about that. The entire duration of Smith's stint with the Flames it felt like this point was overstated the whole god damned time. I see the same thing happening now on Oilers broadcasts.

Physically, Mike Smith is probably the best puckhandler. Mentally, he's quite far from that. It's not a great combo. Kind of like a blind guy driving a Ferrari.

Fans too caught up in winning individual awards for players and mgt. Only award to mean true success is winning the STANLEY CUP!

Oh I agree. I actually don't care much at all about individual awards. Though I was rooting for Gio because it was such a great story of an undrafted guy, who had to go to Russia to prove he could play, winning the award for top dman in the entire NHL.
Hard not to get caught up in that.
But generally speaking I don't care much.

I'm with Jiri.
But I also think it is really important that people get the credit that they have earned, and it frustrates me considerably when some are determined to keep it from those who deserve it.

Sportsnet Headline: "Oilers dominate awards ceremony, while nearby team forced to share single cup award among whole team."
With a Staples article about how unfair it is that the oilers weren't selected for either the Clarence S Campbell or the Prince of Wales awards and that despite not playing in any games past the 1st round, it is clear that Mavi actually got the most votes for Conn Smythe.

Yeah, but the blind guy has really, really great reflexes. When the passenger screams in terror, he can almost always jam on the brakes in time.
Almost.

I find it often is...same as when Kelly says something like "once or twice a year he gives up a goal like that, but its a net gain in the end"
except he says it 15 times a year. Stopping the puck behind the net and maybe giving it to the dman IN THE CORNER is what goalies should be doing. Not trying a stretch pass to get an assist.

I think it's between Gallant and Sutter. Lot's of people will just figure Brunette is a stand in for Quenneville and riding in his wake.
Sutter has a real shot at being the 4th coach to have cups with more than one team (and only Bowman has done it since any of us were alive unless there are any people born in 53 here).
In fact of course, he already has done it but 04 has not yet been recognized as the travesty it was.

"The wildcard, and I've said this a hundred times already, it'll have to be a team falling off the face of the earth for a wildcard to come out of this division. And if you are a wildcard team, I sure as hell don't want to play Colorado in the first round, cause it's gonna be a waste of eight days."

Sutter doesn't care at all but I'm not sure how any writer can honestly look at their own preseason predictions and then not give Sutter the Jack Addams
Gallant's team isn't even playing very well other than the goalie standing on his head

I mean of course it can be; every team Smith lands on points to his puck playing ability as some god send to his blue lines injuries but all I see is a nutbag who keeps giving the puck away than blaming those same players. So yeah, they have less owies and boo-boos but they also have more goals against. It not like Smith is saving a career back there.

I guess mainly it would be because good teams don't typically change coaches mid season, but still.
